Music Added to Fourth of July Fireworks Display

Tune into your radio to hear fireworks synchronized to patriotic music on the Fourth—or just show up at Payrow Plaza or the Levitt Pavilion.

Bethlehem’s Fourth of July fireworks display will for the first time feature pyrotechnics synchronized to music. The City has teamed with Celebration Fireworks of Kutztown and WDIY 88.1 FM radio to bring the “pyromusical” to Bethlehem.

Celebration Fireworks uses computer software to choreograph multiple explosions in time with popular and patriotic music. More than 1,000 fireworks effects are placed in multiple firing positions to produce crossing patterns and motion sequences.

WDIY will simulcast the soundtrack which can be heard by tuning into 88.1 FM on a home, car or portable radio at 9:15 p.m. Pre-fireworks music begins at 8:30 p.m. Mobile phones and notepads may not properly synchronize.

“Bethlehem’s Fourth of July fireworks have always been special,” Mayor John Callahan said. “This year’s pyromusical will be an artistic experience. It’s a great opportunity for everyone in Bethlehem to show off their patriotism and celebrate with family and friends.”

Payrow Plaza, at the intersection of New and Church streets, will serve as a pyromusical viewing station with outdoor speakers to broadcast the audio. Bethlehem Municipal Band’s free concert begins 7 p.m. at the plaza.

The pyromusical soundtrack will also be broadcast at the Levitt Pavilion at SteelStacks, 789 E. First St., where the Allentown Band—the oldest civilian concert band in the United States—will perform, beginning at 8 p.m.

ArtsQuest is planning a full weekend of activities at the SteelStacks campus for the Fourth of July. Earlier on the Fourth, starting at 4:30 p.m., you can hear local blues act, the James Supra Band play at the Air Products Town Square.
