On the article Westboro Baptist Targets 4 Lehigh Valley Churches

ReplyWhy don't folks go and protest at the Westboro Baptist Church so these knuckleheads can feel what it's like? Oh, I forgot. Probably because the overwhelming majority of Americans are not intolerant narcissists. I am all for free speech so if any of them do show, I think they should be allowed to stand around with their signs. But it's about time they had to endure what they've been dishing out, especially to the families of our troops. They might stop their antics if they had to put up with protests outside of the funeral of one of their loved ones.

ReplyA number of the organizations I belong to go dark for the month of August, and several for July and August, so eliminating 1 from a schedule of numerous monthly meetings between the months of June and August here does not seem outrageous. You have to wonder how many council members miss at least one of those meetings anyway due to vacation. In any event, it's not like their assignments and responsibilities are likely to go unfulfilled. They will just get it done at the other meetings. And at the level of stipend we pay these folks (for the hours they put in), I would hardly call this a pay increase. More like an abuse decrease.

ReplyI will make an observation and then see what people think. Clearly, 4 years ago, the country was hungry for change, and after 7 years of war fatigue, an endless media assault against Bush and the financial meltdown, McCain had zero chance of being elected. That was made even more obvious, in my observation at least, by the campaign signage that was displayed in the summer/fall of '08. By my very rough count, Obama bumper stickers were 2 or 3 times more prevalent than McCain and Obama yard signs slightly greater in number as I traveled about the valley. This fall, I have noticed not only a stark decrees in bumper stickers and yard signs in general, but also about a 50/50 mix between the two candidates from Easton to Alburtis and Slatington to Coopersburg. Does this portend anything? I don't know. Clearly though, the enthusiasm for Obama is not what it was in '08. Has anyone divined anything from the number of signs, or a comparison of same from 4 years ago? It could very well be that if Romney chose to push here in PA, even at this late date, he might take it.

ReplyMark....no one wants to suppress your, or anyone's legitimate right to vote. The wave of voter ID laws popularly passed across the country are in response to "illegitimate" voter fraud. "VOTE EARLY" is great...all for it. "VOTE EARLY AND OFTEN"....not so much..

ReplyJason, here's some light reading, per your request. Let me know when you want more. This was very easy to find, just Google "occupy connections to white house"....something any intellectually curious, critical thinker should have had no problem with.

ReplyGosh Jason, so thin skinned all of a sudden? You know, I could say exactly the same thing about your posts and your deluded personality. You haven't exactly been Mr. Congeniality either in your comments to me, or about me. After all, I am as entitled to my opinion as you are to yours. No Jason, I'm not telling you that you cannot question Capitalism...all critical thinking is a good idea. I would suggest however, you try to understand it a little better. And no, it wasn't a threat. Think "Timon" (Nathan Lane) from the Lion King. Let's leave it at this....if, after this year, I am correct (again) about what the cabal behind Occupy has in store for us, you apologize. And if I'm wrong, I'll do the same. Deal? Or do you want this post deleted too?

Jason, actually yes, I've read Christopher Hedges. When he's not off being a complete ideologue, he has some very good points to make. Have you read Ayn Rand? Or von Hayek? Or Friedman? Or Keynes? Or Marx and Engels? Jason, stick to making overpriced coffee and stay away from social engineering before you hurt yourself.

I remember when I moved to the Lehigh Valley many years ago, a real estate agent was found murdered and the details were hushed up and the killer has never been found. This guy is too young to be involved in that, but I wonder if there is some little secret society of serial killers that target real estate agents out there. Ladies, be careful out there.
