Sean Kempf, 18, was struck by a car early Thursday while walking east on Freemansburg Avenue, near Hope Road, in Bethlehem Township. Kempf, of Palmer Township, was taken to the trauma center at St. Luke's University Hospital in Fountain Hill, where he was being treated for multiple traumatic injuries, Bethlehem Township police said. Kempf was in very serious condition. The driver of the car, Lisa J. Ball, 45, of Easton, was taken to St. Luke's University Hospital-Anderson campus and treated for minor injuries, police said. Ball was traveling east on Freemansburg Avenue when the car struck Kempf, they said. The crash, which happened at 12:49 a.m., is under investigation. The woman who died after being struck by an SUV on W. Broad Street Friday night was called a member of the Bach Choir Board of Managers in town to hear the choir sing during the Bethlehem Bach Festival. Jane Smudin, 80, of New Hope, was also retired artist who worked in the advertising industry, according to this piece in The Express Times. In her last hours, Smudin listened to the choir sing Bach Cantatas and had dinner with friends at The Café, 221 W. Broad St., according to The Morning Call. She was struck by the vehicle while walking back to her car at the corner of W. Broad Street and Third Avenue and died of her injuries at St. Luke's University Hospital. An 80-year-old woman died of injuries suffered when she was hit by a vehicle in the 200 block of W. Broad Street Friday night, Bethlehem police said. The woman was not identified in a release issued by Bethlehem Police Chief Jason Schiffer shortly after midnight. The accident happened at 8:30 p.m. and the woman was taken to St. Luke’s University Hospital where she died, Schiffer said. Police, the Bethlehem Fire Department and city Emergency Medical Services all responded to the scene. The Express-Times reported that a silver Jeep Liberty with a crumpled hood was stopped at the intersection of W. Broad Street and Second Avenue and looked as if it had halted in the middle of a turn.
