Field of Dreams Takes Shape in Lehigh Valley

Miracle League of Northampton County prepares for Sept. 9 opening day of new ball field

On a recent Friday morning, the activity at a Palmer Township site was hectic. Workers build a dugout and lay a rubber coating on the ground as Palmer Township Supervisor Bob Lammi oversees the operation. Meanwhile, a short distance away, Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver is helping to put a beam in place. All of this work is leading up to the shout of "Play Ball" as the Miracle League of Northampton County prepares for Opening Day Sept. 9 at its brand-new field. Colver's company, David E. Colver Inc., is serving as project manager and since April 30, his crew has been working non-stop to turn this patch of land in the back left corner of the Charles Chrin Community Center into a Field of Dreams. Miracle League Breaks Ground for Baseball Field

A field designed to let disabled children and adults play baseball at the Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township should be completed by summer or early fall.

After more than a year of planning and fundraising, the Miracle League of Northampton County broke ground today on its new baseball field at the Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township. The field is specially designed to help children and adults with disabilities play baseball. The league hopes to have the field and its buildings finished by late summer or early fall 2012, said Richard Agretto, president of the organization. A teacher and director of special education in the Bethlehem Area School District for 35 years, Agretto said it has been a dream of his to create a facility like this one. “Today is a huge day in making that difference,” Agretto said. “We are making sure that that opportunity is happening for [children with …

Miracle League Kicks Off Capital Campaign

Donations are needed to make the "field of dreams" a reality.

The Miracle League of Northampton County is hoping to garner enough funds to make the dream of a baseball field for children with disabilities a reality. The land in Palmer Township has been secured with a lease arrangement, the project is well under way and the design plans are complete -- compliments of Finelli Engineering. And the Miracle League board is kicking off its capital campaign this week to raise approximately $750,000 to construct and operate the new facility. The hope is to have the ball field up and running in 2012. To promote the program, board members have some help.
