Sun Inn Seeks New Restaurateur, Will Close in June

An experienced restaurateur is needed to take over Bethlehem's historic Sun Inn.

Bethlehem's Sun Inn is looking for a restaurateur to help write the next chapter of the venue's notable history. The Sun Inn is accepting proposals from experienced restaurateurs with solid financial backing who are interested in running a restaurant on the second floor of the building in downtown Bethlehem, according to The Sun Inn's website. The current restaurant will temporarily close after May 31 until the Board of Directors enters into a new agreement. “Having a restaurant as part of the experience in the Sun Inn is important to us,” said Bucky Szulborski, innkeeper. “We want visitors and locals alike to sit and enjoy this beautiful building.” The Sun Inn will remain open on weekends and during special events for self-guided tours, …

Mexico-to-Lehigh Valley Meth Ring Led by Bethlehem Man, AG says

Pa. attorney general says narcotics agents have busted an international meth ring that distributed $7 million worth of drugs in the Lehigh Valley in the last five years.

A Bethlehem man is accused of being co-leader of a crystal methamphetamine ring, which stretched from Mexico to the Lehigh Valley and allegedly distributed $7 million worth of drugs over the past five years, according to state officials. Twenty-three suspected drug dealers and traffickers are charged as a result of the 15-month investigation. Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane identified the leaders of the organization as: Evidence and testimony regarding the alleged drug trafficking was presented to a statewide investigating grand jury, which recommended that criminal charges be filed. The grand jury found that a California woman secured large amounts of crystal methamphetamine from a source in Mexico and delivered the drugs to a location …

Route 378 in Bethlehem Reopened After Crash

A serious car accident at about 2 p.m. Sunday closed part of Route 378 in both directions in Bethlehem.

Part of Route 378 in Bethlehem was closed in both directions following a serious car accident that occurred Sunday afternoon shortly after 2 p.m. According to the Bethlehem Police Department blog, the "major" crash happened on Route 378 north of Eighth Avenue and an investigation into it is ongoing. Police said two people with injuries were transported from the crash scene to area hospitals. The crash occurred between the Eighth Avenue exit and the 14th Avenue overpass. Traffic was detoured and the highway was closed north of Eighth Avenue while the vehicle involved in the accident was removed and debris was cleared. Authorities estimated that the highway would reopen between 4:15 and 4:30 p.m., according to the Bethlehem Police Department…

St. Patrick's Day Parade Saturday: Start Time, Route

Pipe bands. floats and the wearing 'o the green will fill Bethlehem for the third annual Celtic Classic Parade of Shamrocks on Saturday.

The third annual Celtic Classic Parade of Shamrocks will step off at 1 p.m. Saturday at 13th Avenue & Broad Streets.   The parade will continue east on Broad to Main Street and make its way south on Main Street, ending under the Hill-To-Hill Bridge. (This parade follows the same route as the Halloween parade). Downtown Bethlehem will be awash in green, the sound of bagpipes and the sight of Irish dancers.  Organizers say they are honored to have a large representation of the U.S. Military, along with local high school and middle school bands. Driver Charged in Deaths of NY Couple, Baby

Julio Acevedo formally charged after surrendering in Bethlehem earlier this week.

The man who surrendered in Bethlehem after leaving the scene of a fatal accident that killed a couple and their unborn baby last weekend in Brooklyn has been formally charged, the NYPD said in a statement. According to the statement from the police, Julio Acevedo was apprehended Wednesday during an arranged surrender in the parking lot of a minimart on Hellertown Road in Bethlehem. Acevedo waived his right to an extradition hearing and was brought back to New York on Thursday by the NYPD. Acevedo has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, causing death of child passenger, leaving the scene of an accident, and criminal negligent homicide in the deaths of an Orthodox couple and their baby, who was born prematurely before dying earlier …

Alleged Killer Caught After 18 Years on the Run

Francisco Miranda—one of Pennsylvania's most wanted—has been arrested for a fatal stabbing that happened in 1994.

BETHLEHEM, PA -- For nearly two decades, Francisco Miranda was on the run. In 1994, Bethlehem police idenitfied him as their chief suspect in the death of Jorge Valazquez, who was stabbed in the heart in a parking lot near Aaron Street. Then Miranda vanished, spending 18 years on Pennsylvania's Most Wanted list. Until last week, that is, when police took Miranda—who had been living in the Dominican Republic—into custody. That's according to Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli, who announced Miranda's arrest at a news conference Monday morning.
