Route 378 in Bethlehem Reopened After Crash

A serious car accident at about 2 p.m. Sunday closed part of Route 378 in both directions in Bethlehem.

Part of Route 378 in Bethlehem was closed in both directions following a serious car accident that occurred Sunday afternoon shortly after 2 p.m. According to the Bethlehem Police Department blog, the "major" crash happened on Route 378 north of Eighth Avenue and an investigation into it is ongoing. Police said two people with injuries were transported from the crash scene to area hospitals. The crash occurred between the Eighth Avenue exit and the 14th Avenue overpass. Traffic was detoured and the highway was closed north of Eighth Avenue while the vehicle involved in the accident was removed and debris was cleared. Authorities estimated that the highway would reopen between 4:15 and 4:30 p.m., according to the Bethlehem Police Department…

Man Shot in Legs in Bethlehem

City police say two men armed with handguns shot another man early Sunday.

Bethlehem police say a city man was shot in both legs early Sunday by two men. According to police, the shooting happened at a home on the 1500 block of Irene Street, where two men, armed with handguns, shot a third man during a confrontation. The man, who is around 30 years old, was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for treatment. Police said his injuries didn't appear to be life threatening. A woman who was home at the time of the shooting was not injured. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 610-865-7187

Attempted Murder Charges Filed in Double Stabbing

An Allentown man has been charged in the stabbing of two people in Bethlehem, police say.

Bethlehem Police on Tuesday arrested Tony-Ray Arvelo of 618 Chew Street, Apt. 3, Allentown and charged him with a double stabbing that happened Feb. 9. Arvelo was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and possession of instruments of a crime. He was committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $300,000 bail. Bethlehem Police said a man and woman were stabbed at an apartment at 502 Ontario St. just before 11 p.m. Saturday. Initial reports indicate the stabbings occurred after a fight at a party being held at the apartment. Police have not released the names of the victims. They were stabbed multiple times but their injuries were not life threatening, police said.

Bethlehem police say a young man tried to take two Frebreze air fresheners from Ahart's Market

An attempted shoplifting left a bad odor as Bethlehem police say an 18-year-old man tried to take two Febreze car vent air fresheners from Ahart's Market on Montclair Avenue. Sahr Gbollie, of Ontario Street, was charged with retail theft on Feb. 9. The air fresheners were valued at $5.58, police said. In another odd case, a man tried to steal 114 candy bars from Wawa.

2 Stabbed at Party in South Bethlehem

Police are investigating the stabbing of a man and a woman at a southside apartment on Saturday night

Bethlehem Police are investigating a stabbing at an apartment at 502 Ontario Street just before 11 p.m. Saturday. Initial reports indicate the stabbings occurred after a fight at a party being held at the apartment. The individual who committed the stabbing was a man who was at the party, police said. Police have not released the names of the victims or the alleged stabber. Bethlehem Police detectives are investigating and ask anyone with information to call 610-865-7187. No further details were released.

Alleged Shooter Caught in Florida

22-year-old accused of attempted homicide in Jan. 31 Bethlehem shooting will be extradited from Florida back to Northampton County

Kenneth Ortega—also known as "KO"—was arrested in Polk County, Fla. and will be extradited back to Northampton County where he faces charges from a Jan. 31 shooting in the Marvine-Pembroke section of Bethlehem. Ortega, 22, is charged with: Ortega went to Florida by bus with a woman and child, according to a published report. Bethlehem Police say: "We expect to charge other individuals in connection with this offense and another person with harboring Ortega.  More details will be released as they are available." A man was shot at about 3 p.m. Jan. 31 in the Marvine-Pembroke section of the city; his wounds were not life threatening, police said. Cocaine Sting Leads to Arrest of Bethlehem Man

A Bethlehem man has been jailed following a southside cocaine sting

Bethlehem police have made an arrest in a controlled buy of cocaine that occurred almost a year ago on the south side. Carlos Juan Cintron Jr., 27, was arraigned Thursday for allegedly selling almost 50 grams of cocaine to a confidential informant on the night of March 2, 2012. The site of the alleged sale – the 500 block of Evans Street – is about seven blocks west of Cintron’s home on the 1200 block of E. Third Street. He was charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver cocaine and one count of criminal use of a communications facility. He was arraigned by District Judge Nancy Matos Gonzalez of Bethlehem and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.

'Serial Rapist' May Have 3 More Victims

Northampton County DA John Morganelli is seeking victims of a 'serial rapist'

A Bethlehem man who allegedly blamed his sex addiction for the rape of two teens he met on Facebook may be implicated in three more cases, according to a WFMZ report. Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said this week that David Martinez, 20, may have more victims, based on police interviews with Martinez. Since Morganelli's announcement, at least three girls have come forward. Their claims are being investigated. He asked anyone who thinks they were victimized by Martinez to call Bethlehem Police Det. Laptop, Jewelry, Cologne Taken from Apartment, Police Say

Bethlehem Police say a burglar broke into an apartment and took a laptop, jewelry and cologne on Friday night

Bethlehem Police are investigating a burglary at Sherwood Pines Apartments on Irene Street. Someone forced his way into the apartment between 6 p.m. Friday and 2:15 a.m. Saturday and stole a laptop, necklace, watches and cologne, according to the police department's weekend crime summary.

Man, 21, Shot Dead Outside Bethlehem Club

The man killed in a Bethlehem shooting early Saturday has been identified at Tyree Wimberly, 21, of Allentown.

The victim of Bethlehem's first 2013 homicide has been identified as Tyree Wilberly, 21, of 2341 S. Alice St., Allentown, according to the Lehigh County coroner. Wimberly was shot Saturday at 1:36 a.m. outside Scoobies Gentlemen's Club at W. Broad Street near Club Avenue, which is near the Bethlehem-Allentown border. Neighbors who live near the club told Lehigh Valley Live that they weren't surpised by the shooting. They said it's common to hear loud arguments outside the club on weekends. Wimberly was pronounced dead at 3:40 a.m. at St. Luke's University Hospital, Fountain Hill. Bethlehem police and the Lehigh County coroner are investigating with assistance from Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin.
