Police: Teen Accidentally Shoots Himself in Leg

19-year-old shooter/victim initially blamed his gunshot wound on a Stefko Boulevard robbery, but the facts didn't add up, police said.

  In an incident likely to remind some of NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress, a 19-year-old Bethlehem man accidentally shot himself in the leg when the handgun he was carrying fell out of the waistband of his pants on Thursday, Bethlehem police said. When he tried to catch it he inadvertently pulled the trigger and injured himself, said police who did not identify the shooter/victim. Bethlehem Police Det. David Bartera told The Express-Times that the young man initially reported that he had been the victim of a robbery on Stefko Boulevard, but the facts didn’t add up. "He finally 'fessed up to say that he had shot himself,” Bartera told the newspaper. Police responded to the emergency room at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill …

State Trooper Shot, Taken to St. Luke's

A trooper at the Belfast state police barracks accidentally discharged his gun and shot himself in the leg Thursday afternoon.

A Pennsylvania state trooper at the Belfast barracks in Northampton County accidentally discharged his gun and shot himself in the leg Thursday afternoon.  He was taken to St. Luke's in Fountain Hill and is reported to be in stable condition as of 6 p.m. A spokesperson for the state police said the trooper's injuries are not life threatening. The incident is under investigation. Officials have not yet said anything about how the accident happened.
