'Slime' Wanted for Fatal Shooting Outside Strip Club, Authorities Say

Detectives say man known as 'Slime' gunned down Tyree Wimberly on Club Avenue in January.

Police and the Lehigh County District Attorney believe they know who shot and killed Tyree Wimberly in the early morning of Jan. 26 as he walked past a strip club on the border between Bethlehem and Allentown. On Wednesday, District Attorney Jim Martin announced that an arrest warrant has been obtained for Ulysses Rodriguez, a 20-year-old man whose last known address was 937 Walnut St. in Allentown. District Judge Wayne Maura issued the arrest warrant on Tuesday, the DA said. The Bethlehem Police Department and the DA’s Homicide Task Force are asking for the public’s help in finding Rodriguez, whose street name is “Slime,” according to a DA news release. Democratic mayoral candidate proposes district City Council seats and stakeholder neighborhood committees; pledges to oppose fracking that could affect drinking water.

  Democratic mayoral candidate J. William Reynolds on Tuesday laid out a five-point strategy aimed at strengthening Bethlehem’s neighborhoods, the core of which, he said, is to give residents “the resources to make a difference on their own block.” Among the things Reynolds proposed is re-examination of the city’s rental unit inspection laws with an eye toward increasing the frequency of inspections and cracking down on illegal conversions of single-family homes. Reynolds also proposed altering the structure of City Council to include a mixture of district and at-large seats to give more of a voice to some underrepresented parts of the city. Police Seek Witnesses to W. Broad Street Killing

Authorities have released photos of four people who were in the area of Scoobie's Gentleman's Club when Tyree Wimberly was gunned down.

  Law enforcement officials have released surveillance photos of four people who may have witnessed the Saturday morning shooting that killed Tyree Wimberly. Bethlehem police and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s office are asking anyone who knows any of the four individuals in the photographs to come forward and name them. Wimberly, 21, of 2341 S. Alice St., Allentown, was shot at 1:30 a.m. Saturday on the 2200 block of W. Broad Street, in front of Scoobie’s, a strip club on the Allentown side of the municipal boundary between the two cities. Cops: Mom Brought Kids to Buy Crack in Bethlehem

Allentown woman had her two children with her as she bought crack cocaine from a 'known drug dealer' in West Bethlehem, city police allege.

  An Allentown woman had her two children with her when she drove to West Bethlehem to get crack cocaine from a drug dealer, city police allege in an arrest warrant executed on Tuesday, more than two years after the alleged buy. Jennifer B. Stewart, 41, of 209 W. Tilghman St., Allentown, was charged with possession of crack cocaine, intentionally purchasing crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of endangering the welfare of children. The alleged crack purchase took place June 11, 2010. It was unclear from the affidavit of probable cause why Stewart was not brought into custody until Tuesday. 76-Year-Old Woman Charged with Electricity Theft

Police say West Bethlehem woman tampered with a PPL meter to steal more than $1,300 in services from the utility.

  Bethlehem Police have charged a 76-year-old West Bethlehem woman with theft for allegedly stealing more than $1,300 of electricity from PPL Electric Utilities, according the department’s weekend crime summary. Ana Rivera of 1617 W. Broad St. allegedly removed a utility meter and tampered with it in order to steal electricity from PPL, according to a case summary. Police said the total theft of service was $1,312.30. The total amount owed is $1,561.52 when the damaged meter is factored in, police said. Rivera was charged with theft of services and criminal mischief. It was unclear from the case summary whether Rivera was issued a summons, jailed or released on bail.

Ward Pleads 'Guilty But Mentally Ill' in 2011 West Bethlehem Slaying

William J. Ward stabbed and dismembered Trisha Sadler at their Cloverdale Road home in June 2011. He will spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance for parole.

  A 46-year-old Bethlehem man has pleaded guilty but mentally ill to first-degree murder in the June 2011 slaying of his girlfriend, whose dismembered body was found by police after a friend reported that the victim had not shown up for work. William J. Ward, who lived with the victim at 1860 Cloverdale Road, Bethlehem, entered the plea today before Lehigh County Judge James T. Anthony, according to a news release issued by the Lehigh County District Attorney’s office. Ward was charged in the death of Trisha Sadler, 29, whose body was found on June 17, 2012, in her home. Ward was taken into custody after a five-hour standoff with Bethlehem police. Ward will be sentenced to life in prison without parole, the DA’s office said. Lehigh County …

Police Trying to Identify Burglary Suspect

Bethlehem Police Department is looking for public's help in identifying suspect in West Bethlehem burglary.

  The Bethlehem Police Department is looking for help identifying the suspect in a burglary that occurred in the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. The department posted a surveillance picture of the suspect on its blog on Tuesday. No other information about the incident was released. Bethlehem to Get Sprayed for West Nile Virus

A truck will be spraying in parts of Bethlehem early Wednesday targeting mosquito breeding grounds.

  Starting in the wee hours of Wednesday, the Penn State Extension for Lehigh County will send a truck to spray some of the prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes in Bethlehem to combat West Nile Virus.  To date, 37 mosquitoes and birds have tested positive for West Nile Virus in Lehigh County. Six mosquitoes have tested positive in the city, two more in Bethlehem Township and one mosquito in Fountain Hill also tested positive. The spray – Methoprene SR20 – is safe for people and other mammals, according to Matt Helwig of the state Department of Environmental Protection’s West Nile Virus Program. Helwig said the spray affects the growth cycle of larval mosquitoes so they don’t become adults that can transmit West Nile. "It’s very safe,” he …
