Lincoln Elementary School in Northeast Bethlehem has been given a $105,000 grant from the United Way’s Women’s Leadership Initiative to fund after-school and summer enrichment programs. The gift, which will be distributed over the next three years, was announced Wednesday through a news release issued by the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley. “A key focus of WLI’s mission is to engage women in promoting positive change in the lives of women and children in the Lehigh Valley,” said Joyce Dougherty, chairwoman of the Women’s Leadership Initiative. “This partnership with Lincoln is a perfect example of our mission come to life, since its after-school and summer enrichment programs support a student’s development and academic learning…

Stuart Shaw of Bethlehem won the spree at Wegmans in Allentown as a United Way donor prize.
Stuart Shaw’s family can eat lobster, crab and filet mignon for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next few weeks should they choose to. Shaw of Bethlehem won a three-minute shopping spree at Wegman’s supermarket on Tilghman Street in Allentown and managed to grab $1,559 worth of groceries as he raced through the store this morning. As a United Way donor, Shaw was automatically entered to win the Wegman’s spree by contributing at least $175 through his work as an actuary at Guardian Life Insurance in Bethlehem, according to Sarah Cooke, spokeswoman for the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley.
