Charlie Dent No Longer Listed as "Vulnerable"

Four-term Republican U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent looks likely to keep his 15th District seat come Nov. 6.

Incumbent Republican Congressman Charlie Dent is no longer listed as vulnerable by PoliticsPa in his re-election race against Democrat Rick Daugherty. The statewide politics website this week shifted Dent's rating from what had been "minimally vulnerable." Dent, who is running for his fifth term, saw the 15th legislative district he serves change under a new political map. For the last 10 years, the district consisted of all of Northampton County, most of Lehigh County and small parts of Berks and Montgomery Counties. Under a new map, the district extends across five counties from Northampton County to Dauphin County. In a controversial move, the map splits up the Lehigh Valley, putting Easton and part of the Bethlehem Area School …

I don't know any politician who is going to engage in a debate in a line to the polls. I am sorry to say that you sound foolish. It also sounds as if you have a slight chip on your shoulder.   more ›

Should Dent Dis Newspaper That Called Him a Fink?

Congressman Charlie Dent is refusing to participate in an Express-Times debate because of the newspaper's editorial that called him a "fink" for supporting a controversial redistricting map

What do you think of U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent's decision to skip an Express-Times candidate debate because the newspaper ran a front-page editorial calling for the ouster of "fink" politicians who supported gerrymandered redistricting in Pennsylvania? Tell us in the comments section below. Dent's campaign manager said the newspaper forum would be biased against the candidate for the 15th congressional district. Republican Dent and Democratic challenger Rick Daugherty will debate at least twice before the Nov. 6 general election:

Dent: Prosecutor Needed to Probe National Security Leaks

Congressman Charlie Dent says a special prosecutor is needed to investigate national security leaks

By U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent/Pa-15th Congressional District After the Wikileaks debacle of 2010, I hoped the Obama administration learned an important lesson on the need to protect America's most valuable intelligence, which is often obtained by dependable sources through increasingly sophisticated and clever methods. Wikileaks illustrated how the release of sensitive information by an individual can deeply damage our nation's intelligence capabilities and embarrass American officials and our trusted allies. Wikileaks also taught us the regrettable action of a single bad actor can endanger the lives of countless human sources, who are incredibly courageous and extremely valuable to the United States. Unfortunately, the breadth and detail of …

Dent Votes to Repeal Obamacare

Charlie Dent part of House vote this week to repeal Obamacare

U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent, R-15th, released this statement about his vote Wednesday to repeal Obamacare: “The 2010 health care law contains numerous detrimental policies that not only fail to appropriately address the complex problems of our health care system, but hurt our economy and hardworking American families. "Repealing the law would allow Congress to enact meaningful reform measures that reduce cost, expand access and improve quality. Its repeal would also prevent the imposition of over 20 new or higher taxes that will cost Americans $675 billion over the next decade and stifle economic growth. "While the political reality is repeal will not occur under this Administration, which still considers the deeply flawed law its signature …

Daugherty Wins Democratic Nomination for 15th

Rick Daugherty to challenge U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent in November after defeating Jackson Eaton in Democratic congressional primary, despite being outspent by a 10-1 margin.

Rick Daugherty, chairman of the Lehigh County Democratic Party, won the right to oppose U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent in the general election in November with his Democratic primary election victory over attorney Jackson Eaton on Tuesday. Daugherty won the Democratic nomination for the 15th Congressional District by an unofficial 18 percent margin, according to published reports. That margin held in unofficial returns posted on the Lehigh and Northampton county election Web sites. Daugherty, a Lowhill Township resident who is also the executive director of the Lehigh County Senior Center, won despite being outspent by a 10-1 margin by Eaton, who raised about $200,000 by early April, according to The Express Times. Eaton conceded the race before…

Debt Ceiling Crisis Brings Protesters To Dent's Door

They dropped by U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent's office in South Whitehall to oppose any cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

As the debt ceiling crisis looms in Washington, 18 people encouraged by MoveOn.org dropped by U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent's office in South Whitehall today to protest any cuts to Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security in an effort to deal with the problem. Dent, R-15th District, was in Washington, D.C., not at his local office.  However, Matthew McConnell, who handles constituent concerns for Dent, assured the group that he would pass its message to the congressman. He also handed out copies of Dent's opinion piece, released Monday, that addresses the showdown that's nearing in Washington over competing plans to deal with national spending and the debt ceiling. The exchanges were short, though filled with some tension, as the group crowded into …

You've caught the talking points of the Repubes (Once upon a time....). Now let's deal with some reality. Taxes are lower than they have been for decades. SS would stay solvent very nicely if the money put into it by we people was used for it only. Have Congress put the money they stole back into the program. Medicare is a program that every civilized country has some variable of (Don't go into …   more ›
