A serious car accident at about 2 p.m. Sunday closed part of Route 378 in both directions in Bethlehem.
Part of Route 378 in Bethlehem was closed in both directions following a serious car accident that occurred Sunday afternoon shortly after 2 p.m. According to the Bethlehem Police Department blog, the "major" crash happened on Route 378 north of Eighth Avenue and an investigation into it is ongoing. Police said two people with injuries were transported from the crash scene to area hospitals. The crash occurred between the Eighth Avenue exit and the 14th Avenue overpass. Traffic was detoured and the highway was closed north of Eighth Avenue while the vehicle involved in the accident was removed and debris was cleared. Police have released details of a Jan. 27 crash that killed a Nazareth area man
The crash that killed Joshua Kortze, 24, of the Nazareth area on Jan. 27 happened when he was speeding around a curve on the Route 378 off ramp to get onto Route 22 in Bethlehem, police say. Kotze's 2007 Subaru Impreza began to spin clockwise as he took the curve and he then counter steered, sending the car spinning in the other direction where it went off the road and hit a PennDOT highway sign, according to details of the accident released this week by state police of the Bethlehem barracks. The car then went northeast and hit a concrete median. Kortze was pronouned dead at St. Luke's University Hospital.

A 24-year-old Bushkill Township man was killed early Sunday when his car crashed on Route 22 in Bethlehem.
Joshua R. Kortze, 24, of 538 Roberts Road, Bushkill Township was killed early Sunday when his car crashed on Route 22 in Bethlehem, according to the Lehigh County Coroner. Kortze was driving east on 22 from the Route 378 north ramp at 3:35 a.m. His death was a result of blunt force trauma and has been ruled an accident. He was pronounced dead at 4:17 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke's University Hospital, Fountain Hill. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the accident.

In one afternoon, Bethlehem Police wrote 20 tickets on Route 378 for aggressive driving, with the top speeder clocked at 86.2 mph. Officers wrote the tickets for aggressive driving between 2:30-5:30 p.m. Dec. 11, according to city police. Among the citations, 15 were issued for speeding, one for following too closely, two for violating obedience to traffic control devices, one for violating protective equipment for motorcycles and one for lack of seatbelt use. The average speed of all the traffic timed on the highway was 62.3 mph. Of those drivers who were issued tickets, the average speed was 77.15 mph. Motorists traveling on Route 378 north from the Hill-to-Hill Bridge may find lane restrictions along the way starting at 8 a.m. this morning. Workers from the city’s Electrical Bureau will be out replacing bulbs in the street lamps along the stretch of highway from the bridge to Route 22. That will require temporary lane closures as workers move north, according to Tiffany Geklinsky, the city's traffic coordinator. If you are on Route 378 north, be on the lookout for those workers and lane restrictions between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The task is expected to be completed by Wednesday.
