Woman Arrested for Robberies Linked by Lighter, Police Say

A Bethlehem woman who allegedly confessed to robbing a gas station and a 7-Eleven in the city over the weekend told police she was high on heroin and Ecstasy, police say.

A six-inch WWF lighter helped lead Bethlehem Police to a woman who admitted robbing a city gas station and 7-Eleven store during early-morning hours over the weekend, court records say.  Joanna Scandlen told police she was high on heroin and Ecstasy during the robberies and said "My financial situation was desperate and I did not know what to do," an arrest affidavit says. Scandlen, 26, of 3120 East Boulevard, Apt. B, Bethlehem, is accused of robbing the Quick Fill gas station at 2960 Linden St. at 6:41 a.m. Saturday and also the 7-Eleven at 2930 Linden St. Sunday morning. 3 Robberies Reported in Bethlehem

Bethlehem Police say on Friday and Saturday three people reported being robbed by a group of assailants.

Three robberies were reported to Bethlehem Police on Friday and Saturday and in each case the alleged perpetrators were part of a gang of four or five assailants. The first was reported about 4:19 a.m. Friday in which a man, 25, said he was assaulted in the 600 block of Atlantic Street by five unknown assailants, according to a police report. The victim stated that the incident was gang-related. He was taken to St. Luke's University Hospital in Fountain Hill but declined medical treatment.  He also refused to give further details of the incident. City Man Pleads Guilty to 'Bloods'-Ordered Thefts

Michael Prater faces up to 137 years in prison for his part in 10 crimes.

A city man pleaded guilty today to his part in 10 crimes in which police say Lehigh University students were targeted by Bloods gang members, according to a report in The Morning Call. Michael Prater, 20, faces up to 137 years in prison after admitting to his part in 10 crimes, including robbery, conspiracy to commit theft and burglary. Prater was arrested, along with three juveniles, on Dec. 10 following the mugging of a 21-year-old Lehigh co-ed as she walked alone on the 600 block of Pierce Street. According to police, the group of youths stalked the woman after she separated from a group of friends. Prater and a 15-year-old allegedly played a game of “rock, paper, scissors” to determine who would carry out the attack. The youths were …

City Police Investigating Theft, Robbery

Thieves cut down utility pole to take 1,500 feet of wire; man assaulted for his bike at Wawa.

Thieves cut down a utility pole on former Bethlehem Steel land and stole 1,500 feet of eight-strand copper wire, according to Bethlehem Police. The vandalism and theft on Majestic Realty Co. land at 3001 Commerce Center Boulevard was reported on Monday afternoon and remains under investigation. City police are also investigating a robbery at the Wawa at 2525 Easton Ave., which occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Monday. It was there and then that a shirtless male with three stars tattooed across his chest punched Michael Matias, 24, of Bethlehem Township, on the side of the head and took his chrome Dyno bicycle, police said. The robber then fled north on East Boulevard, police said.
