Miracle League of Northampton County prepares for Sept. 9 opening day of new ball field
On a recent Friday morning, the activity at a Palmer Township site was hectic. Workers build a dugout and lay a rubber coating on the ground as Palmer Township Supervisor Bob Lammi oversees the operation. Meanwhile, a short distance away, Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver is helping to put a beam in place. All of this work is leading up to the shout of "Play Ball" as the Miracle League of Northampton County prepares for Opening Day Sept. 9 at its brand-new field. Colver's company, David E. Colver Inc., is serving as project manager and since April 30, his crew has been working non-stop to turn this patch of land in the back left corner of the Charles Chrin Community Center into a Field of Dreams. Forks/Palmer/Easton program provides homes to 32 students from Europe who spend month learning about United States.
Lori Boucher spent a year as a host mother. But then she had enough. That's when the Lower Mount Bethel Township woman decided to jump right in and serve as coordinator of a program that brings international students to the Lehigh Valley for one summer month to learn about this side of the pond. "My husband is from France," said Boucher, who has served as coordinator for 14 years. "So we wanted to keep his culture alive." On Wednesday morning, the group of 32 international students -- high schoolers between ages 15 and 18 -- for the Forks/Palmer/Easton chapter had gathered for class in the Cornerstone Church on College Hill. There, they received some instruction from Boucher about a field trip to Washington, D.C., for the weekend and got …

Tea Party members told at August monthly meeting to get active this election.
The rallying cry has been issued. At its August monthly meeting, leaders of the Lehigh Valley Tea Party urged its members to get active this election campaign season. "We have to get the word out," President Barb Walters said during the meeting at the Charles Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township. "When we go out to community events, people don't know us. But we've been here four years," she said. "We need more of an outreach and get people to know the Tea Party." She suggested that members reach out to their local legislators, governments and school board to spread the Tea Party message. "We need to get active, get involved," member Bryan Eichfeld said. "There's the presidency, Senate, the new congressional district No. 17. Show up. …
