Lehigh Rolls Over Holy Cross in League Opener

With their best player on the sidelines, Mountain Hawks open Patriot League season with easy 79-47 win over Holy Cross Crusaders.

With C.J. McCollum sitting behind the bench instead of leading the Mountain Hawks on the court, Lehigh opened up the Patriot League season Saturday with a dominating 79-47 victory over the Holy Cross Crusaders at Stabler arena. Complete team efforts, like this one, will be needed if Lehigh is to successfully defend its league championship without McCollum, who broke his foot a week ago. Mackey McKnight led the way with 16 points while freshman Justin Goldsborough had a career-high 10 rebounds. The Mountain Hawks are 11-4 on the season and 1-0 in the Patriot League. The attached video, courtesy of Lehigh Athletics, features game highlights and interviews with Coach Brett Reed and senior Holden Greiner.

Lehigh Star to Miss 8-10 Weeks with Broken Foot

Mountain Hawks' star guard C.J. McCollum has a broken foot and may not return to action this season.

An X-ray of the left foot of Lehigh Mountain Hawks’ star guard C.J. McCollum taken Sunday confirmed the team’s fears: He has a broken bone – the fifth metatarsal – in his left foot. The All-American is expected to miss eight to 10 weeks of play as a result of the injury, according to a Lehigh news release. At best, that means McCollum could be back to play in Lehigh’s final regular season game, at Stabler Arena, against Army on March 2. At worst – unless Lehigh can pick up an NCAA Tournament berth without its best player, McCollum has played his last game as a Mountain Hawk. “We are going to make sure C.J. is fully recovered and will place the highest priority on quality of care,” said Lehigh head coach Brett Reed. “We’ll be certain the …

Lehigh Star McCollum Injured in Loss to VCU

Lehigh University's star senior guard C.J. McCollum, the nation's leading scorer, may have broken foot in 59-55 loss. More testing needed for diagnosis, coach says.

The game may not have been the biggest loss the Lehigh Mountain Hawks suffered in a 59-55 defeat at Virginia Commonwealth Saturday night. The team’s best player, All-American C.J. McCollum, may have broken a bone in his left foot, according to reports. It is unclear how severe the injury is or how much time Lehigh’s star senior guard will miss. “It appears as if there may be a break in his foot,” Lehigh coach Brett Reed told The Express-Times. “It is too early to make that diagnosis for sure. I’m certainly not an expert in that area. We’re going to take him back, do some tests and we’ll ultimately have some confirmation from there, but I think it is a little bit more significant than an ankle sprain.” McCollum missed the first game of …

Mountain Hawks Dominate Fairleigh Dickinson

Lehigh jumps out to fast 32-3 lead en route to Coach Brett Reed's 100th victory.

The Lehigh University men's basketball team jumped out to a 32-3 lead just over 10 minutes into the game, then continued to roll as the Mountain Hawks (6-2) topped Fairleigh Dickinson 102-62 on Saturday evening in Stabler Arena. Lehigh shot 63 percent from the field (38-of-60) and 58 percent from three-point range (11-of-19) in an offensive clinic. For Coach Brett Reed, this was his 100th victory as Mountain Hawks' coach. No coach in the history of the Patriot League has reached that milestone more rapidly. The video was posted by Lehigh Athletics.
