The summer's second heat wave arrived Thursday and won't let up at least until Tuesday.
If you enjoy baking, then the next four days are for you. Summer's second heat wave arrived Thursday as the official high temperature at Lehigh Valley International Airport hit 90 degrees. But that's just the beginning, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued a heat advisory for Lehigh and Northampton counties. Temperatures through Monday are going to be heating up, making for a heat wave of at least five days. A heat wave constitutes temperatures of 90 degrees or above for at least three days. Today, the high temperature is expected to hit 96; on Saturday, 95; on Sunday, 92; and on Monday, 90. The meteorologists say that summer officially arrived at 7:09 p.m. Wednesday. But the thermometers in Bethlehem and across the Lehigh Valley were saying that it really arrived several hours earlier – as the mercury climbed toward 90 degrees at noon and then kept going. A major warm-up is expected just in time for the start of summer, as temperatures will climb into the 90s Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast for today - the first official day of summer - is sunny with a possible heat index - that's heat plus humidity - of 100. The weather service has declared a heat advisory between the hours of 1 and 7 p.m. today. The likelihood of heat illnesses is high during these hours.
