Stronger Gun Laws Wanted in Pa., Poll Says

See what Pennsylvania voters think of stricter gun laws and add your opinion.

Stricter gun laws are a topic many people are talking about. A number of local college presidents have signed a letter asking for more gun control, including Jane McAuliffe of Bryn Mawr College, Kathleen Ownes of Gwynedd-Mercy College, Joanne V. Creighton of Haverford College, Daniel H. Weiss of Lafayette College, Peyton Helm of Muhlenburg College, Rebecca Chopp of Swarthmore College, Bobby Fong of Ursinus College and Rev. Peter M. Donohue of Villanova University. Pennsylvania voters think the federal government should have stricter gun laws, according to the latest poll from Quinnipiac University. The poll found 60 percent of those polled are in favor of stricter laws, while 5 percent thought the laws should be less strict and 32 percent …

Anti-Violence Vigil in SouthSide Draws 50

Candlelight vigil for peace held on street where gun battle left one woman dead and five others hurt six nights ago.

  More than 50 people stood in a parking lot along E. Third Street in South Bethlehem Friday night to hold a candlelight vigil for peace, to speak out against gun violence on city streets and to pray for the young woman who was gunned down a few feet away six nights ago. “We need to start healing as a community,” said Guillermo Lopez, a longtime Bethlehem community activist and one of the event’s organizers. “Yolanda Morales died much too young.” Bethlehem Police on Friday charged Rene Figueroa, 32, of Allentown, with homicide in the death of Morales, a 23-year-old woman from Bethlehem. Man Shot in Abdomen on Livingston Street

Injuries suffered by 20-year-old in early Monday shooting not considered life-threatening. Police seeking public's help in finding his assailants.

  A 20-year-old man was shot in the abdomen in the Northeast section of the city early Monday, police said. The incident occurred at 1:09 a.m. at the rear of 1235 C Livingston St., according to the police’s daily incident report. The suspects, black men, drove off in a white Nissan Maxima, police said. Bethlehem police are not identifying the victim, whose wounds are not believed to be life-threatening, according to The Express-Times. He was brought to St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill where he underwent surgery and was still undergoing treatment Monday afternoon, Det. Lt. Mark DiLuzio told the newspaper. The shooter is described as thin, between 6-feet-3-inches and 6-feet-4-inches tall, and wearing a white-hooded sweatshirt…
