Does Your Dog Have a 2013 License?

Dogs 3 months of age and older are required to have a license in Pennsylvania, or risk a $300 fine.

  2013 dog licenses are now available for purchase from Lehigh County and Northampton County treasurers. WFMZ reports that Lehigh County dog law enforcement officials will be going door to door in coming weeks to make sure dogs are licensed. Pennsylvania law requires all dogs 3 months and older to be licensed by Jan. 1 each year.  “A dog license is an inexpensive way to keep peace of mind in the event your dog gets lost,” Agriculture Secretary George Greig said in a press release. “It’s your dog’s ticket home, and it’s the law.”  An annual license is $8.45 and a lifetime license is $51.45 (and requires a dog be tattooed or microchipped). So they are going door to door in Lehigh county. How are they going to force someone to show the dog license? Like everything else, law abiding people will not have a problem but those not obeying the law just will refuse. I don't see the county getting a search warrant to check a dog license.   more ›

And where do you report someone that fails to get the current licenses, in berks county the humane society or police do nothing. But then that could be the credibility the dog owner has to everyone since he was a former supervisor of our township.   more ›

With family gatherings, holiday celebrations and New Year's resolutions to tackle, one minor task can easily be forgotten among all of the hubbub: renewing dog licenses. But forgetting that minor task could cost you. The maximum fine for having an unlicensed dog in Pennsylvania is $300, and all dogs 3 months and older must have a license in the Keystone State. Call your state representatives and ask them to OUTLAW DOG LICENSES. Florida for example does not require a dog license. A dog license is mearly an addtional tax. We are perfectly capable pf buying an I.D. tage for our dogs. We don't need Big Brother to do it for us.   more ›
