Bach at Noon Free Concert Tuesday

The free 'Bach at Noon" series at Central Moravian Church continues on Feb. 12

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem & Bach Festival Orchestra will perform from 12:10 to 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 12 at Central Moravian Church in Historic Downtown Bethlehem. Admission Free. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. This week's program will include: Thank you to Bach at Noon sponsors: Rexroth Bosch Group, HMK, Janney Montgomery Scott, The Dexter H. and Dorothy H. Baker Foundation, Jephson Educational Trust, and Keystone Nazareth Charitable Foundation.

Jamaican is New Central Moravian Church Bishop

Bishop Hopeton Clennon is the new senior pastor of Central Moravian Church

Central Moravian Church has welcomed the Rt. Rev. C. Hopeton Clennon, formerly chaplain of Moravian College and Moravian Theological Seminary, as the new Senior Pastor effective January 16. Bishop Clennan will be installed in a special service on Sunday, January 20 at 11 a.m. “Many of us know Hopeton and Shelia as members of the congregation,” said Mary Catherine Tachovsky, president of the Board of Trustees and William Sachs, vice president of the Board of Elders, in a joint letter to the congregation.  “Others know Hopeton as a friend, as a guide and as a spiritual leader of the Eastern District and Northern Province (of the Moravian Church).”  Bishop Clennan replaces Rev. Carol Reifinger, a Bethlehem native, who retired last year. …

Bach Choir's Noon Concert Series Begins Today

This year's annual Bach Choir seven-concert noon concert series features the works of Bach and Vivaldi at Central Moravian Church.

  The Bach Choir of Bethlehem’s ninth season of Bach at Noon concerts begins today at Central Moravian Church. The seven-concert series features programs on the second Tuesday of the month, 12:10 – 1:00pm, September-November 2012 and January-April 2013. Admission is free and no tickets are required. A free-will offering will be received. The Bach Choir recommends that people come early to be sure of a seat since the concerts have continued their outstanding success in attracting close to capacity audiences. Each Bach at Noon concert features one vocal and one instrumental piece performed by members of The Bach Choir and Bach Festival Orchestra and distinguished soloists. Former U.S. Open Tennis Chair Merv Heller Dead at 65

Funeral services for Merv Heller of Bethlehem are set for August 28 at Central Moravian Church.

Mervin A. Heller Jr. of Bethlehem and formerly of Berks County died on Aug. 21, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital following a prolonged illness. Heller was former chair of the U.S. Open tennis competition - one of the most prestigious events in sports. He was born June 10, 1947, in Reading, Pa., son of the late Mervin A. Heller Sr. and Rachel Turkington. Mervin will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jan S. Heller of Bethlehem; daughters: Marnie A. Healey and her husband, Nathan, of Wyomissing, Christina Heller of Los Angeles, CA, Katie Heller of San Francisco, CA, and Jenna Berninger of Baltimore, MD; as well as his grandchildren, Ana and Vieve Healey. He was preceded in death by his aunt, Lillian Heller. He will be remembered for his dynamic …

Rev. Craig Atwood Delivers Sermon at Central Moravian Commemorating 10th Anniversary of 9/11

When approached to give the sermon at Central Moravian Church for this coming Sunday, Reverend Craig Atwood was tempted to decline. The thought of developing a message that might lift the hearts and spirits of a congregation in the midst of reflecting upon such a tragedy as 9/11 is a daunting task for any minister.  In his sermon, “Dealing with Tragedy in the House of Grace,” which will be delivered Sunday at the 9 a.m. service, Rev. Atwood will discuss the Moravian response to the events of 9/11 and what the events reveal about Moravians themselves. “A crisis like 9/11 reveals our true selves," Atwood said.
