Breastfeeding Cover Photo: What Do You Think?

 Moms Talk is a weekly feature on all Lehigh Valley Patches in which local parents, caregivers and other members of the community are invited to share opinions and advice on parenting topics. This week’s Moms Talk question relates to a Time magazine cover photo of a breastfeeding mom used to illustrate an article about “attachment” parenting. The May 21 issue of time magazine features a cover photo of a mom breastfeeding her three-year-old son, who is standing on chair to reach her breast. The photograph is being used to illustrate an article about a concept in childrearing known as “attachment” parenting. Keep Breastfeeding Through the Holidays

Local lactation consultant warns about mastitis and diet for breastfeeding moms during the holidays.

The holiday season can mean hectic holiday shopping, meals on the go, long road trips and lots and lots of sweets. For breastfeeding moms it can be difficult to enjoy all those holiday treats and maintain a nursing schedule with all the travel but, Sharon Mendes, RN, CPN, IBCLC, has tips to keep moms and babies healthy into the new year. If mom is out shopping, it is legal in Pennsylvania to breastfeed in public without penalty. I'm so glad Tara was able to get this article out for the Holiday's. Kelly, I think that by exclusively nursing during the time you have off is a great idea. During my two years of nursing my daughter, I went through several times where my supply dropped. Insurance Guidelines Should Help New Mothers

Affordable Care Act provides for more preventative care and assistance for breastfeeding moms.

Big news for pregnant and nursing mothers: The government is making it easier for women to receive maternity benefits, lactation support and the rental of hospital grade breastpumps through the expansion of Affordable Care Act effective at the beginning of this month. The new guidelines adopted by the Department of Health and Human Services, require new health insurance plans to cover women’s preventative services.
