One person suffered second-degree burns and smoke inhalation, firefighter also hurt in Bethlehem Township blaze.
Two people were injured and a family was displaced by a house fire at 3931 Hecktown Road in Bethlehem Township, according to multiple published reports. The fire started in the basement of the home a little before 2 a.m. and spread to the first floor. Firefighters were able to knock the fire down in about an hour, according to The Morning Call. A 21-year-old at the scene was treated for second-degree burns to the forearm and smoke inhalation, according to The Express-Times. A 20-year-old firefighter suffered a leg or foot injury, the newspaper reported. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the basement when firefighters arrived, according to WFMZ-TV, Channel 69. A Bethlehem Township woman who was forced to evacuate her house because of a large sinkhole that opened nearby was allowed to return to her home on Monday, The Express Times reported. The sinkhole to the rear of 1502 Second St. was caused by a sewer main leak, has been stabilized and no longer poses a threat to the surrounding neighborhood, Township Fire Marshal Steve Gallagher told the newspaper. Contractors are expected to arrive at the scene Wednesday and fill the hole with grout, the newspaper reported. On Sunday morning, the sinkhole was about 25 to 30 feet wide and 10 to 12 feet deep, Bethlehem Township police said. An Allentown stripper who was found dead in a Bethlehem Township home in December died from the combined effects of heroin and alcohol intoxication, Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek said Wednesday. Lysek has ruled the death of 26-year-old Amy Soule accidental. Law enforcement authorities had initially labeled the death suspicious. Soule, who was employed at the Platinum Plus Gentleman’s Club on Airport Road, died on Dec. 5 in the master bedroom of 3920 Country Club Road, the home of Chad Michael Delp, 36, according to a search warrant executed at the scene. Two Lackawanna County businessmen were found guilty of stealing more than $800,000 from Bethlehem Township as a result of a jury trial that wrapped up in Northampton County Court on Friday, according to The Express-Times. Patrick McLaine and Robert Kearns were the principals for Municipal Energy Managers Inc., which was hired by the township in 2007 to broker a deal with PPL Corp. to buy the township’s streetlights. A Moore Township woman and a male accomplice have been arrested and charged with selling methamphetamine to a confidential police informant in Bethlehem Township, according to court papers filed by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office. Jamie Lynn Kinghorn, 36, of 255 Nazareth Drive, and Nicholas Strohl, 26, who has no current address, are both facing three felony drug counts as a result of the alleged $650 sale of 3.5 grams of meth. The meeting between the suspects and the confidential informant took place on Nov. 21 at a township location that was not divulged in the arrest affidavit. An Easton man with a female passenger and a quantity of crack cocaine drove down Route 33 at speeds exceeding 110 mph during an early-morning police chase that ended with a state police trooper using a Taser-like device to stop the man as he fled on foot, court records say. Residents of Bethlehem Township are asked to keep an eye out for a blue and gold macaw lost near Wright Veterinary Center
A large blue and gold macaw was lost Wednesday near Wright Veterinary Center behind the Keystone Pub on Easton Avenue in Bethlehem Township. The owner has had the bird since it was a baby and is devastated, according to a post on Lehigh Valley Craigslist. Anyone who sees the bird is asked to call Wright Veterinary at 610-865-2611. Please don't attempt to capture her as she may take off again.

DEP is planning to spray in parts of of Bethlehem Township as part of ongoing effort to control West Nile virus-carriers.
A spray designed to control the spread of mosquitoes will be applied to sections of Bethlehem Township tonight in the state’s continuing effort to control the spread of West Nile virus, according to a Department of Environmental Protection news release. In the event of rain, it will be rescheduled for Friday, Aug. 31 at the same time. The treatments will be administered by truck-mounted equipment to spray open spaces in residential, recreational and industrial areas. There have been 12 reported human cases of West Nile virus in Pennsylvania this summer, two of them in Lehigh County. One Luzerne County man has died of complications from the disease. Human cases have also been confirmed in Chester, Delaware, Franklin and Lancaster counties…
