91-Year-Old Woman Accepts Volunteer Award

  Gloria Mitchell is a spry 91 year old who refuses to sit still and "act her age.” A World War II veteran, Mitchell works out regularly at the Bethlehem Racquet Club and gets around in her vintage Chevy Camaro. "I hate doing nothing," she said Monday morning after accepting the Josefina Berrios Community Service Award from the Bethlehem Housing Authority. Mitchell is constantly on the go, helping out with a military honor guard detail, according to Maj. Gen. Gerald Still, who came to honor his friend. "Gloria is the epitome of a community servant," he said. "She gladly serves others because she gets a genuine good feeling from helping those in need.” Mitchell, a participant in the authority’s Section 8 voucher program, also volunteers …

Police: Trespasser Holding Marijuana Tried to Flee

Suspect who had been banned from Bethlehem Housing Authority property had large amount of cash and marijuana, police said.

  A man listed as homeless had a “large amount of cash” and a quantity of marijuana in his pants pockets when city police on mountain bikes caught up with him late Friday in Marvine-Pembroke. The two officers were pursuing the suspect, Joseph Anthony Wilson, 20, because he is banned from being on Bethlehem Housing Authority property, court records say. The records do not say why he has been banned from BHA property, but the records say Wilson has been arrested before for violating the ban. The officers, meanwhile, spotted Wilson on the 1200 block of Woodbine Street around 11pm. ”We looked Wilson in the face and told him to stop,” Officer Zachary A. Beals wrote in a criminal complaint.
