Candy bar left on front passenger seat of recovered stolen car led police to the alleged thief, according to court records.
A South Bethlehem man was linked to a car theft through a fingerprint police found on a candy bar wrapper left in the recovered vehicle’s front passenger seat, according to court records. Kyle Dees, 18, of 1465 Ravena St., was arrested Thursday and charged with the April 6 theft of a white 1992 Nissan Sentra. The car had been left running, with the keys in the ignition, in front of the victim’s home at 1551 Irene St. after 3 p.m. Police found the car parked in front of 1940 Lynfield Drive three days later, according to court papers. The victim, Patricia Hargraves, was called to the scene and spotted a Turkey Hill shopping bag sitting in the front passenger seat that did not belong to her, the affest affidavit said. A Chester County man whose 2004 Ford had to be towed late Monday from Routes 22 and 512 was charged Tuesday with stealing a 2002 Audi from a nearby Bethlehem area dealership. He said he stole the Audi – breaking rear windows in both showrooms to gain access -- “because the police had stolen his vehicle,” according to court records. The suspect, Devon Morrissey, 19, of Phoenixville was driving the Audi when he was taken into custody Tuesday in Montgomery County by Upper Merion Township police, the records say. 18-year-old tried to evade capture before hitting street light in South Bethlehem.
A Bethlehem teenager crashed a stolen car he was driving into a street light in the SouthSide Monday night in a futile attempt to elude arrest, city police said. George Hernandez, 18, of 418 W. Fourth St., allegedly took the car, a 1997 maroon Saturn, from in front of 814 Bridge St. at a little before 10 p.m. Soon after the car was reported stolen, a city officer spotted the car on Linden Street at Market Street traveling south, police said. The police officer pursued the Saturn and stopped Hernandez at the north end of the Philip J. Fahy Bridge.
