$8,000 Reward for Tips on Skinned Foxes Found Dead

Lehigh Valley animal lovers are pledging thousands of dollars for tips in the case of 11 small animals found dead and skinned in a rural park.

The Lehigh Valley Pitbull Awareness Club is offering a reward for information about 11 small animals -- likely foxes -- found skinned and dead near Quarry Park in Lower Macungie Township last Friday. The animals were originally thought to be puppies. One was shot and the others appear to have been trapped. They looked to be about 6 months old, according to a Lehigh County Humane Society official. The club posted a notice of a $100 reward for information in the case on its Facebook page and donations have now swelled to $8,000, which includes a $1,000 pledged by Humane Society President Bruce Fritch. Fox Killer Shot One, Trapped Others

Because the animals found Friday in Quarry Park are thought to be foxes, the case has been turned over to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Information about what was first thought to be 11 skinned puppies that were found Friday in Quarry Park continues to trickle down from official sources.  DNA samples taken from what are now presumed to be young foxes have been sent out to be analyzed, said Christine Wiggins, Lehigh County Humane Officer. It will take weeks for the results to be returned. Only then will the animals' species be confirmed. Somebody used a shotgun to kill one of the foxes, Wiggins said, and the others look to have been trapped. Since they are thought to have been wild animals, the case has been turned over to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, she said. Eleven small animals found dead and skinned near Lower Macungie's Quarry Park Friday have been tentatively identified as foxes because of their teeth, according to Christine Wiggins of the Lehigh County Humane Society. Further testing is needed to be sure, Bruce Fritch of the humane society told The Morning Call. Cat Deaths Investigated by Humane Society

Lehigh County Humane Society officials think death of two cats found recently in a cornfield is suspicious.

The Lehigh County Humane Society is investigating deaths of two cats, one found Oct. 2 and the other 2 days later in North Whitehall. According to a statement from Humane Officer Christine Wiggins: "Two cats were found dead off of Levans Road in a North Whitehall corn field this past month. The first cat was found Oct. 2 and the second cat was found Oct. 4. Both cats were indoor/outdoor cats that would always return home. The first cat was found in the corn field with a severe wound to the back of the neck. The other cat was found in the same exact spot with no visible wounds though. Dog Found Burning in Cage

The latest disturbing case of animal cruelty is a dog found ablaze in a cage along a road

Animal welfare officials are investigating the death of a dog found burning inside a cage on a roadside in Coatesville, Chester County on Saturday. Fire crews responded but the dog did not survive, according to a WFMZ report. Other recent animal abuse cases include 15 horses left neglected on a property in Plainfield Township, Northampton County. One of those horses was pregnant with twins, which did not survive. Also, a neglected dog was dumped in a ditch in South Whitehall Township in July.

Animal Cruelty Charges Filed Against Owner of Neglected Horses

Fifteen non-traffic citations for animal cruelty were filed against Damiano Diflorio after police seized neglected horses and mules from his Plainfield Township property.

Plainfield Township police have filed cruelty-to-animals charges against a New Jersey man in connection with 15 injured and neglected horses and mules living on his Kesslersville Road property. The charges are contained in 15 non-traffic citations -- one for each animal -- and were mailed to Damiano Diflorio, 63, of 4313 Route 27, Princeton. The animals were living at Diflorio’s property at 5326 Kesslersville Road. Previous Patch stories listed Diflorio’s first name as “Dominic,” which was a mistake made in the application for a search warrant on file at District Judge Joseph Barner’s office.
