Patient Assaulted Nurse with Blood, Police Say

Hepatitis C positive patient at St. Luke's Anderson emergency room threw her intravenous lines at a nurse, who was hit in the face with blood and other fluids, police say.

  A woman infected with hepatitis C has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly ripping two intravenous lines out of her arm and throwing them at an emergency room nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus. Judy Esther Shadder, 59, of 940 Berger Road in Williams Township, was arrested Tuesday by Bethlehem Township police for the alleged Feb. 14 attack. The nurse, Wendy Nixon, told police that she was struck in the face with a mixture of blood and other fluids from the intravenous lines and an attached needle, according to the arrest affidavit. Freemansburg Man Charged with Theft from Hospital Construction Site

Nicholas Young, 22, was part of a crew of thieves who stole copper wire and metal, police say.

  A 22-year-old Freemansburg man allegedly stole as much as a ton of copper wire from the new Anderson campus of St. Luke’s Hospital while it was still under construction in June of 2010, according to court records. Nicholas Young of 227 Clearfield St. was arraigned on multiple charges Wednesday night and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $30,000 bail following his arraignment before District Judge Nancy Matos Gonzalez. Young had been wanted by Bethlehem Township police since May for that theft, which netted he and his partners 47,000 feet of copper wire worth more than $8,350. The wire stolen on June 5 was on 22 rolls and would have weighed between 1,600 and 2,000 pounds, the court records say. According to the affidavit, …
