Center City 7-Eleven Robbed

Suspect handed store clerk a note demanding money in cash register, shortly before midnight Tuesday, police say.

The 7-Eleven at Broad and Center streets was robbed a little before midnight Tuesday night, Bethlehem police said. The suspect apparently never brandished a gun, but did provide the clerk with the impression that he had one as he handed over a note demanding the money in the store’s cash register, police said. The store clerk handed over the money and the suspect fled the scene. An initial search for the suspect was unsuccessful, police said. The suspect was described by police as a black male, possibly in his late 20s, five-foot-nine with a medium build and dreadlocks that were tucked inside a white winter cap. He was wearing a black jacket with white stripes down the sleeves, black pants and shoes and dark sunglasses. Anyone with …

Where to Get Free Coffee for National Coffee Day 2012

Get your caffeine on and celebrate with a free cup of coffee.

If the first words out of your mouth every morning are, “I’ll have a large coffee”—or if you can’t even speak until after you’ve had your java fix—there's a national holiday created especially for you. America will put staunch tea drinkers to shame on National Coffee Day on Sept. 29, when coffee fiends can rejoice and celebrate their beloved coffee bean with free brew from national chains. Coffee was first brought to America in the mid-1600s in a shipment en route to “New Amsterdam,” now known as New York, according to the National Coffee Association. We have that shipment and the Boston Tea Party to thank for turning the nation into coffee drinkers.   Participating 7-Eleven stores are celebrating a day early today with CofFREE Day which…

Five Armed Robberies in 12 Days in Bethlehem

Mayor Callahan said he is "very confident" that the suspects in Wednesday's brazen Dancing Designs robbery will be caught soon.

Less than a week after ending a string of armed store robberies with the arrests of four teenagers, Bethlehem police were confronted Wednesday with yet another store stickup in the city. But the fifth robbery of a city establishment in the past 12 days was far different than the first four – all late-night holdups of 7-Elevens. At a little after noon, a pair of gunmen brashly walked into Dancing Designs Jewelry, 512 Main St., tied up store employees and took jewelry and cash. They then casually stepped back outside to mix with a sun-splashed lunch crowd that sipped coffee at ReWired Café or ate lunch at Tapas on the same block. “Awfully brazen,” said Mayor John Callahan, who predicted that the suspects would be captured quickly. I think our police department is doing a good job of nabbing those who are committing these crimes, but that's after the fact. What is most disturbing is that for whatever reason armed robberies and assaults are happening much more frequently in Bethlehem. As a lifetime resident I don'tt ever remember so much of this happening and it is very disconcerting. Sooner or later someone will pull the …   more ›

Bethlehem Police believe they have made arrests that will bring an end to a recent rash of armed robberies at convenience stores in the city and Palmer Township.
