The 7-Eleven at Broad and Center streets was robbed a little before midnight Tuesday night, Bethlehem police said. The suspect apparently never brandished a gun, but did provide the clerk with the impression that he had one as he handed over a note demanding the money in the store’s cash register, police said. The store clerk handed over the money and the suspect fled the scene. An initial search for the suspect was unsuccessful, police said. The suspect was described by police as a black male, possibly in his late 20s, five-foot-nine with a medium build and dreadlocks that were tucked inside a white winter cap. He was wearing a black jacket with white stripes down the sleeves, black pants and shoes and dark sunglasses. Anyone with …

Get your caffeine on and celebrate with a free cup of coffee.
If the first words out of your mouth every morning are, “I’ll have a large coffee”—or if you can’t even speak until after you’ve had your java fix—there's a national holiday created especially for you. America will put staunch tea drinkers to shame on National Coffee Day on Sept. 29, when coffee fiends can rejoice and celebrate their beloved coffee bean with free brew from national chains. Coffee was first brought to America in the mid-1600s in a shipment en route to “New Amsterdam,” now known as New York, according to the National Coffee Association. We have that shipment and the Boston Tea Party to thank for turning the nation into coffee drinkers. Participating 7-Eleven stores are celebrating a day early today with CofFREE Day which…

Mayor Callahan said he is "very confident" that the suspects in Wednesday's brazen Dancing Designs robbery will be caught soon.
Less than a week after ending a string of armed store robberies with the arrests of four teenagers, Bethlehem police were confronted Wednesday with yet another store stickup in the city. But the fifth robbery of a city establishment in the past 12 days was far different than the first four – all late-night holdups of 7-Elevens. At a little after noon, a pair of gunmen brashly walked into Dancing Designs Jewelry, 512 Main St., tied up store employees and took jewelry and cash. They then casually stepped back outside to mix with a sun-splashed lunch crowd that sipped coffee at ReWired Café or ate lunch at Tapas on the same block. “Awfully brazen,” said Mayor John Callahan, who predicted that the suspects would be captured quickly. Four Bethlehem area teens arrested for string of convenience store robberies. All will face multiple felony counts as adults.
Four teenagers are in Northampton County Prison, charged with pulling off a string of five armed robberies at city 7-Elevens and a Rudy’s Car Wash & Mart in Palmer Township over a four-day span beginning Saturday. Three of the four were caught as they were allegedly working to commit a sixth robbery at the 2930 Linden St. 7-Eleven at a little before 3 a.m. Wednesday. The fourth suspect, Isaiah Barker, 17, of 725A Ramblewood Lane, Freemansburg, was apprehended Wednesday evening by Allentown police during a “rooftop foot chase,” according to the Bethlehem Police Department’s Twitter feed. Asked why, Ashley Horning, 17, of 1345 Beverly Ave., Bethlehem, told police: “It was for the money and the thrill,” according to court papers. Also …

Four suspects nabbed before they can rob Linden Street 7-Eleven for the second time in a week. Police say a citizen's tip helped lead them to arrests.
Bethlehem Police believe they have made arrests that will bring an end to a recent rash of armed robberies at convenience stores in the city and Palmer Township. A tip provided by a citizen helped lead to the arrest of four suspects who were apparently in the process of making a second robbery attempt at the 7-Eleven at 2930 Linden St. early this morning, according to the Bethlehem Police blog. Police had asked for the public’s help after a string of robberies in the city and township that began early Saturday morning. The names of the suspects will be released after they are formally charged and arraigned, most likely later today, police said. An officer on overnight business surveillance spotted a suspicious man near the convenience …

Two West Bethlehem 7-Eleven stores were hit by armed robbers over the weekend, but city police do not believe that the incidents are related. The first of the two convenience store robberies occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday at the Westgate Mall 7-Eleven, 1362 Catasauqua Road, police said. The robber walked in brandishing a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from the clerk. He then grabbed money from the cash register and walked out toward Catasauqua Road, police said. The 7-Eleven at 1426 W. Broad St. was victimized at about 10 p.m. Sunday, according to police. The suspect entered wearing a mask and threatened the clerk with a gun before getting away with cash. Bethlehem police Det. Lt. Mark DiLuzio told The Express-…
