Veterans Day, Leaf Collection Starts: Your Week

Also, City Council opens budget hearings; Paramore and "America's Got Talent" tour visit Sands.

As this week gets under way, let’s all take a moment to remember and thank all the veterans who have sacrificed and put themselves in harm’s way to defend our country.

  • The Bethlehem Area School Board’s Facilities and Finance committees will meet beginning at 6 p.m. Monday in the Education Center on Sycamore Street.
  • The ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks celebrates Veterans Day with a free screening of rare wartime footage from days gone by, courtesy of Easton’s Lou Reda Productions. The program gets under way at 7:15 p.m. Monday in the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas.
  • Orange-haired singer Hayley Williams and the rest of pop/punk hit-makers Paramore come to the Sands Bethlehem Event Center at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Tickets are $49.50 or four for $120.
  • The touring show of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” comes to the Sands Bethlehem Event Center at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets are from $39.50 to $89.50 for a VIP meet-and-greet package.
  • Elva Treviño Hart, the author of Barefoot Heart: Stories of a Migrant Child will discuss the day-to-day struggles of those who work in the fields while encountering an environment hostile to those who are not literate in English at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the David A. Reed Community Room, College Center, Main Campus of Northampton Community College.
  • City Council will meet for the first budget workshop session at 7 p.m. Thursday. The schedule calls for discussion of police, fire and ambulance budgets.
