Nor'easter Could Disrupt Thanksgiving Plans: Your Week

Also, parent-teacher conferences and shortened school days at elementary and middle schools.

As we enter Thanksgiving week, the threatening weather forecast is going to be foremost on everyone’s minds—whether you are looking to travel, expecting traveling company or just looking to do some last minute shopping for the Turkey Day feast.

The National Weather Service and other forecasters haven’t finalized the outlook, but they are gaining confidence that we will start to feel the effects of a Nor’easter by mid-day Tuesday that could bring us several inches of rain with a mix of some snow and freezing rain into Wednesday.

Here’s what else is going on in Bethlehem this week:

  • Monday noon is the deadline to submit a letter of interest and resume to apply for the open District 2 seat on the Bethlehem Area School Board.
  • With daytime parent-teacher conferences scheduled Monday and Tuesday, there are only half-days of class for all but one of the Bethlehem Area School District’s elementary and middle schools both days. Farmersville Elementary School will have a full day of school both days. Spring Garden, Governor Wolf and Fountain Hill elementary schools will also be hosting book fairs those days.
  • Bethlehem City Council’s Human Resources and Environment Committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday in Town Hall to discuss items in the 2014 budget proposal and other items.
  • All of the schools in the Bethlehem Area School District will be closed Wednesday for the beginning of a six-day holiday weekend. District offices will be open Wednesday, but closed Thursday and Friday.
  • Bethlehem City Hall will be closed Thursday and Friday for the holiday.
  • Shop this week at Homebase Skateshop in South Bethlehem and help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
  • The 11th Annual Historic Turkey Trot 5K and walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday through Bethlehem’s Central Historic District. The race benefits the Historic Bethlehem Partnership. Register online or call 610-882-0450 ext. 10 for more information. Race pack and t-shirt pickup is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday at the Luckenbach Mill (459 Old York Road) and after the race.
