Viewfinder: Cedarbrook Residents Go Fishin'

Residents from Cedarbrook, Fountain Hill took a field trip to Allentown to see what they could catch.

Residents of Cedarbrook Nursing Home went fishing along Cedar Creek,Β just northeast of the facility on S. Cedarbrook Road in South Whitehall.

Pop-up canopies provided shade as the residents watched trout nip at their bait.

The Cedarbrook Sportsmen, who stock that portion of the creek annually for the event, released 100Β farm-raised trout at the beginning of the week. Another 100 were added toward the middle of the week, so residents could be assured they would catch at least one during their visit.

Volunteers assisted the residents as they baited, cast and reeled in their fair share of native trout.

Lehigh County officials said the trout are released back into the creek after they're caught, but any fish that appeared to be injured were put aside to be enjoyed by the residents at a fish fry later.

The event runs through Tuesday, with morning and afternoon shifts to allow all those interested to participate.

Patch contributer Jenae Holtzhafer was on hand earlier this week to capture the scene.
