Musikfest Highlights: August 10
There is rain in the forecast, but Sheryl Crow is playing the Sands Steel Stage and a 67-year-old polka band returns to Festplatz.

The Headliner and The Highlight: The great Sheryl Crow exploded on the pop charts when All I Wanna Do from her year-old debut album “Tuesday Night Music Club” became a smash hit in 1994. She has won nine Grammy Awards and sold 35 million albums worldwide. Tickets at $40 and $30 are still available. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Show starts at 7:30.

For the Little Ones: It’s Superhero Day at the Peeps & Company Banana Island Craft Tent. Also, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania set up shop to provide information about their programs. Live music by Rolie Polie Guacamole, Robbi K and the Stacey Peasley Band.
Mary Ellen’s Celtic Corner: Whitehall’s Amarach (Volksplatz, 1:30 p.m.) is billed in the Musikfest program as a fusion of Celtic and funk. The John Byrne Band (Volksplatz, 5 p.m.) came all the way from Dublin, Ireland, to bring its own mix of Irish and American folk styles.

The Best of the Free Platzes: The Rolling Stones are newcomers when compared to John Stanky & The Coal Miners, which have been playing live gigs since 1945 when Stanky, then 9-years-old, and some friends were hired to play a three-day Polish wedding in their hometown of Nanticoke, Pa. Now in their 68th year, the Coal Miners play at Festplatz at 4 p.m. Local musicians Lori Donovan and Jeff Roberts on the Liederplatz stage a year ago. Donovan Roberts return at 9 p.m. to celebrate their first anniversary. Chris Beard grew up in Rochester, N.Y., in his own “house of blues.” His dad, Joe, had been a blues guitarist in Memphis who had personal friends like Matt “Guitar” Murphy and Buddy Guy – who would sometimes drop by and give young Chris some lessons. The Chris Beard Band is at Americaplatz at 9 p.m.
Musikfest After Hours: Late night comedy with stand up comedian Pat House, 11 p.m. at the . Tickets are $5. Philadelphia Funk Authority plays at Club Mural in the from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. Acoustic cover musician Paulie Knakk appears at The Wooden Match (the former Main Street Depot) at 61 W.
