Football: Providence Set to Face L-W East in 7A Playoffs After Big Win

Providence Catholic defeated Bradley-Bourbonnais 44-7 in the first round of the Class 7A IHSA playoffs with a strong run attack led by Brandon Price.

Breaking It Down: Providence Catholic played with a chip on their shoulder in the first round of the Class 7A IHSA playoffs. Except for a fumble inside the Boilermakers' red zone on Providence's opening drive that gave fans an uncomfortable reminder of the previous week, it was smooth sailing for the Celtics on their way to a 44-7 win.

Providence's backfield consisting of Dominic Lagone, Brandon Price and David Kaminski combined for over 190 yards rushing, despite not playing a snap in the fourth quarter.

The Celtic defense forced four turnovers, and dominated the Bradley-Bourbonnais backfield. With less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter, the Boilermakers had lost two yards on their 12 rushing attempts.

Patch’s MVP: Jeff Cesario, Providence Catholic. After blocking a field goal and recording eight tackles against Mount Carmel, Cesario set the bar high for himself in his first playoff action. The junior racked up more than five tackles once again, but his highlight of the night came mid-way through the second quarter. Cesario picked up a fumble forced by Joshua Pericht, and brought it 26-yards into the endzone for a touchdown which gave the Celtics a commanding 28-0 lead.

Providence Catholic Stat Pack: Noah Cralle batted down three passes and intercepted one. Brandon Price rushed for 87 yards on 12 carries and scored three times. Dominic Lagone completed 3-of-5 passes for 65 yards and rushed for 71 yards on 14 attempts. David Kaminski rushed for 33 yards on 4 carries, including 2 touchdowns. Andrew Banathy intercepted a pass plus made two tackles for a loss.

Bradley-Bourbonnais Stat Pack: Colin Holderman completed 12-of-28 passes for 142 yards and threw two interceptions. Jarrod Ward had four receptions for 32 yards. Daniel Harris returned a kickoff over 60 yards. Shaun Ohrt caught a 28-yard pass that setup the Boilermaker's lone score. Darion Taylor recorded a sack.

Quotable I: "After [the loss to Mount Carmel] we wanted to get back on the field and correct the mistakes we made," Providence head coach Mark Coglianese said.

Quotable II: “He's definitely smaller, so there's less pressure on me, but I still got to get the job done,” Kaminski said comparing Price, who the fullback blocked for on his three touchdown carries, to other running backs he has paved the way for previously.

Quotable III: “I think we have a really good shot at beating Lincoln-Way East, because I feel they haven't played as tough of a schedule [as us],” Cesario said. "I'm not saying the teams they've played are bad, but they're no Mount Carmel or Loyola."

Team Records: Providence Catholic is 8-2. Bradley-Bourbonnais is 6-4.

What’s Next: While Bradley-Bourbonnais' season is over, Providence moves on to face Lincoln-Way East next Saturday in the second round of the Class 7A playoffs. The time of the game will be announced Monday.

Is this the New Lenox Patch or the Providence Patch ? There is another team in New Lenox that is playing pretty well these days. You don't even mention Lincolnway West's score in your other notable scores. BTW, they won 35-0 against Rochelle.

Jack Fordon caused three fumbles against Bradley, with Cesario returning one for a TD and Pericht recovering the other.
