Bethlehem Halloween Parade, 5K Race Today

Halloween Parade and 5K race will go through Broad and Main streets this afternoon.

 

Postponed last Sunday because of Hurricane Sandy, the Bethlehem Halloween Parade will be held today at 2 p.m.

The parade route will be east on Broad Street starting at Eighth Avenue to Main Street, south on Main Street to Spring Street and disband at the Daniel E. Rice Plaza. Reviewing stand will be on Main Street, south of Walnut Street.

Starting at 12:45 p.m., Broad Street between Eighth Avenue and 16th Avenue will be closed to traffic.

That will allow the annual Bethlehem Halloween 5K, which was also postponed from last Sunday, to start at 1 p.m., following the same route as the parade.

Costume judging for the race will take place in front of the Historic Hotel Bethlehem at 12:30 p.m.

Once the race begins, Broad Street from Eighth Avenue to Main Street, and Main Street from Broad to Spring streets will be closed to traffic.

At 12:15 p.m. officers will erect the barricades in front of the Historic Hotel Bethlehem, Main St. Ramp, Spring Street & Main Street, and Broad & Main streets, closing Main Street to allow for setup of the Start/Finish line. Main Street will stay closed until the parade is over.

Parade participants will stage on W. Broad Street and the Avenues between Eighth and 16th, and on Market and North streets. 

Parking will be restricted on the following streets between noon and 4 p.m.:

  • Broad Street – Main Street to 16th Avenue – both sides
  • Main Street – Broad Street to Spring Street – both sides
  • 16th Avenue – Restrict west side only between Broad & Schaffer streets;
  • both sides south Schaffer to Market Street;
  • both sides north from Broad Street north to North Street 

Parking will be permitted for church services until 1 p.m.
