Skipping Finals No Longer an Option to High School Seniors

Unless they sign up to take college Advanced Placement tests.

In an effort to encourage more students to take Advanced Placement classes at Liberty and Freedom high schools, the Bethlehem Area School District has done away with a policy that allows seniors with A averages to skip their final exams, The Morning Call reported.

Only exceptions will be given to students who are scheduled to take Advanced Placement tests, which may qualify students for college credit. The tests are administered by the College Board and cost $87 to take.

Assistant Superintendent Jack Silva told the school board that he believes too few students are scoring well on AP exams given the number of courses offered. The idea is to provide an incentive for students to take the courses and score better on the exams.
