Lehigh Has Already Made This Final Four

Perhaps it is a near-impossible dream for the Mountain Hawks who have a huge hurdle to clear in their opening game with Duke on Friday night.

But according to the Website Inside Higher Ed, Lehigh is a Final Four team – in the classroom if not on the basketball court.

The Website filled out its own tournament bracket. But instead of picking winners based on the strength of team guards, how well teams finished the season or how much the site's editors liked the team nicknames, they based it on academic performance.

The winners were determined based on each team's multiyear Academic Progress Rate, which the NCAA uses to measure classroom performance.

In a tie, the Website used the NCAA's Graduation Success Rate, which measures the proportion of athletes who graduate within six years

At the end of the analysis, as you can see in this bracket, Lehigh came out of the South Region with an Elite Eight win over the Kentucky Wildcats.

The analysis has Lehigh losing in the Final Four to Davidson College of North Carolina.

As it turns out, the Inside Higher Ed champion – the Kansas Jayhawks – would not be a far-fetched pick in a roundball-based bracket either.
