Freedom's 'Les Mis' Nominated for 15 Freddys

Notre Dame gets 10 nominations for 'The Music Man.' Productions from Moravian Academy, Bethlehem Catholic and Liberty also get recognition in annual celebration of high school musicals.

 

Freedom High School picked up 15 nominations—including Outstanding Overall Production and Outstanding Lead Actor—as Easton’s State Theatre on Thursday announced its list of nominees for this year’s Freddy Awards, the annual celebration of the high school musical.

This is the second consecutive year that Freedom—which last year won the award for Outstanding Overall Production—led participating schools from eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey in Freddy nominations. Parkland High School was also nominated 15 times.

Notre Dame High School was nominated an impressive 10 times—including Outstanding Overall Production, Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Lead Actress for its production of The Music Man.

Moravian Academy was nominated four times, including Outstanding Production by a Smaller School for its production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

Bethlehem Catholic High School was nominated twice and Liberty High School picked up one nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor for Drew Donaher, who played Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

Freedom’s Hannah Arnold, who won the award for Outstanding Lead Actress last year, was nominated for three awards this year—Outstanding Supporting Actress, Outstanding Solo Vocal Performance and Outstanding Ensemble Performance.

For the supporting actress and solo vocal awards, Arnold—who played Eponine in Les Miserables—has competition, respectively, from fellow cast members Emily Anderson (Cosette) and Daniel Youngelman (Jean Valjean).

Youngelman, who was also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor, is competing with Liberty’s Donaher and Notre Dame’s Tyler Fernandez, who last year won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Featured Male Ensemble Member.
