BeCaHi Graduates Class of 2012, Names Honorees

A two-day graduation celebration for the Class of 2012 of began with a Baccalaureate ceremony on Wednesday, June 6, held in the Richard B. Culver Performing Arts Center on the Bethlehem Catholic High School campus.

On Thursday, June 7, Bishop John Barres joined Mr. John P. Petruzzelli, principal and Mrs. Diane Young, vice principal as they presented diplomas to 171 graduates.

Jasmine Singh, daughter of Ravinder and Jasminder Singh of Bethlehem earned the esteemed honor of class valedictorian. Jasmine plans to attend , double majoring in biochemistry and business administration.

The theme of her address was to follow your dreams and to believe in yourself. Leaving some advice to the underclassmen, she encouraged them all to, “Shoot for the moon - because even if you miss, you will land on a star.”

The salutatorian is Adrian Llanos, son of Karen and Gerard Llanos of Stewartsville, N.J. Adrian plans to attend the University of Toronto, majoring in materials engineering.

Adrian’s theme for his address looked at the sometimes-difficult challenges in life from a perspective that is not entirely self-centered. He takes his speech down a path showing how his experiences at BeCaHi opened his eyes. The main inspiration for this theme was an essay he read by author, David Foster Wallace.

This year’s class of graduates, led by student body president, Jacob Criscuolo and vice president, Gabrielle Lacherza, along with senior class president, Marc Blanchard and vice president Marianne Brooks, leave the Bethlehem Catholic hallways with many accomplishments, the school said.

• $8.6 million was earned in college scholarships and academic grants.

Additionally, on Wednesday, May 16, Bethlehem Catholic High School honored twenty student athletes that have committed to playing sports at the collegiate level, at Division 1 through Division 3 schools.

Athletic Director, Mr. Michael Grasso and Principal, Mr. John Petruzzelli thanked both the athletes and the parents for their excellence, focus, dedication not only in their chosen sport, but also to their academics and their school spirit.

Bethlehem Catholic High School senior, Christopher Blaszka, son of Mark and Donna Blaszka from Franklin Township, NJ, represented BeCaHi at the 31st Annual Lions All-Star Soccer Classic on Sunday, June 3. An Eagle Scout, a charter member of the Squires' Circle of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the National Honor Society, a four-year player with the school's soccer, tennis and chess teams, a member of the marching and concert bands and service team member, Christopher also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in the Germantown area. He will be attending Penn State Main Campus in the fall and plans to major in athletic training.
