Twp. Lowers Speed Limit on Mill Creek Road

Drivers will soon see a lower speed limit on curvy Mill Creek Road in Lower Macungie.

Prepare to slow down if you're driving on curvy Mill Creek Road.

Township commissioners on Thursday lowered the speed limit on the extremely winding portion of Mill Creek Road between Spring Creek Road and Sauerkraut Lane.

Commissioners voted unanimously to lower the speed limit to 25 mph from its current 35 mph.

Months ago residents of that stretch of Mill Creek Road petitioned the commissioners with their concerns. Some said dangerous conditions were created when drivers tried to navigate the road's curves at high speeds. Some said they were even afraid to try to collect their mail from roadside mailboxes.

You've got to love LMT's method of handling traffic planning (or lack thereof). Overbuild, don't plan for proper transportation, overwhelm old farm roads, install stop signs, install stop lights, and lower speed limits. Now a 2 mile trip across the fields that used to take 5 minutes takes 15-20. We need real planned and engineered transportation routes to effectively move people throughout the area. Not lower speed limits, stop signs, and stop lights that impede movement, waste time, money, and fuel.

@LMTnative. You can sum this all up in one word. BANDAIDS. What we need is real planning.

Many drivers really speed on this portion, as well on the western part of Sauerkraut, which is already 25mph. They crawl up your bumper and get irate. Driving is not fun around here.

Why not close it to all traffic-what a bunch of cry babies-never happy-move to New York if you don't like it here !!
