Tax Day Has Arrived, Have You Mailed Your Forms?

Lehigh Valley Post Office in Hanover Township will let you mail your taxes until the last minute.

If you're a procrastinator when it comes to filing taxes, beware. The deadline to file your federal income tax returns or request an extension from the Internal Revenue Service is midnight on Monday, April 18.

This year's tax deadline is actually three days later than the traditional deadline of April 15. The deadline was extended three days this year because Friday, April 15 was a holiday in Washington, D.C. 

Some post offices in Pennsylvania will offer extended hours to accommodate last-minute filers, according to a news release issued by the United States Postal Service.

The only local post office that will offer extended hours is the at 17 S. Commerce Way in Hanover Township, Northampton County. The retail office at this office will be open until 8pm and the last scheduled mail pick-up will be at 11:59pm Monday.

The other post offices in Bethlehem will all close as they normally do, at 5 p.m., though the post office at ., is an automated postal center with vending machines that allow stamp purchases 24 hours a day.

According to the news release, customers who deposit their tax forms in the mail collection box in front of the Lehigh Valley Post Office by 11:59pm will receive an April 18 postmark.
