Send Patch Your Presidential Debate Questions

If you have a question for the candidates, submit it in the comments section below and it could be asked during the televised Oct. 16 Town Hall Presidential Debate.

If last Wednesday’s presidential debate left you with more questions than answers, here’s your chance for the presidential candidates to address the issues that most matter to you.

The next presidential debate will be a town hall meeting format at Hofstra University in Long Island, where voters will ask President Obama and Mitt Romney about domestic and foreign policy.

Bethlehem Patch is asking you, our readers, to participate by submitting questions for the candidates.

All you have to do is post your question in the comments section below and we’ll send it to the Commission on Presidential Debates. The Commission is partnering with Patch's parent company Aol, along with Google and Yahoo, to take questions from web users across the country.

Don’t wait until Nov. 6 to have a say in this year’s election. Share your thoughts in the comments!

If our nation needs a National Healthcare System, why don't we just expand the coverage that Congress has to include all of the U.S population? We don't need a 1,000 page act such as the Affordable Healthcare Act (Obamacare).

If there is one thing that most Americans agree on, it is that gridlock in Washington is preventing us from solving our problems. President Obama has acknowledged that, until he became President, he didn't realize how hard it would be to get the "other side" to work with him. The question for the President is, "Now that you know how hard it is, if you are reelected with a Republican controlled House and/or Senate, how will things get done any better than they are now?" And for Gov. Romney, "What makes you thing that you would be better than President Obama at working with the "other side" in a Democrat controlled Congress?"

I worked for forty years before three illnesses forced on to disablity. I accrued $5000 in medical bills and wiped out my savings. This qualifies me for the 47% and the thru the cracks medical nightmare story. My question for Romney - how does this qualify me for the irresponsible moochers status? My question for Obama, change disablity in two areas, let disabled people earn 1.5 the amount of their checks without losing their disablity status and Medicare and cut the back payment of checks or reducethem to three months. This would cut the long legel battle to get disablty status. It shoul not take 6 years and a law office to prove your disablity medical claims.

To both candidates: what do you feel can and should be done to curb the extreme elements in both political parties from dominating the primary process, thereby reducing the ability of candidates to seek compromise and govern effectively, once elected? In other words - does either Candidate have the guts to admit that the System is Broken - and that we need public financing of Presidential Elections?

To what extent is Attorney General Holder responsible for “Fast and Furious?” If businessmen can be jailed for being in responsible corporate positions when a medical device company pushes off-label usage of a drug or device, how can you retain Attorney General Holder when agents under his supervision allowed illegal weapons to get into criminal hands without even notifying the Mexican government? Has anyone been fired or prosecuted for “Fast and Furious?”

Do you propose that any international body should be able to levy or collect taxes upon Americans in the United States by treaty or any form of direct, indirect or excise taxation without the consent of the House of Representatives and the Senate?

Are you willing to give Israel the same pledge of protection that the United States gave to Western Europe in the days of the former Soviet Union, that an attack on Israel would be the same as an attack on the United States?

What proposal do you have as an alternative to the fiscal cliff?

Do you propose that any international body should be able to levy or collect taxes upon Americans in the United States by treaty or any form of direct, indirect or excise taxation without the consent of both the House of Representatives and the Senate?

We US Citizens are experiencing the worst economic depression in our life time with more than 8% unemployment. A lot of jobs are shipped overseas to India and China particular. At the same time a lot of jobs within our country are taken away by these visa folks from India and China using H1 L1 EAD and now OPT visa(student visa)..If u see the Job prospectus only 10% of Jobs created in USA are gone to US citizens..The reason it is dirt cheap to hire and employ a foreign visa holder..We us citizens are NOT competing with talented foreign visa folks(as the main reason for the allocation of these visa's) but by the cheapest foreign workers.. White Black Native americans are all affected with these dumping of foreign visa folks mainly from India.. Around 70% of work related green cards are gone to folks from India, 80% of all these work visa's are gone to india from 2008.. Let us NOT bring in cheap visa folks but only talented foreign workers whom our country can beneifit from..Let us make it harder for companies to hire these visa folks..One way is Increase these visa fees(H1 L1 EAD, OPT visa) to arond $40K/Annum..so companies pay preimum to hire these folks.. Unemployment for US citizens will a thing of the past if we do that..Until that time whomever be our president our citizens will keep on suffereing and this unemployment for ur will deteriote further..Let us taken action now.. Around 4 Million visa folks are still in these visa..waiting to get green card..

An illegal immigrant (who doesn't pay taxes) and stays in this country for certain years is offered GC. A legal immigrant (who respects every law of this country, pays taxes, supports growth to economy) has to wait for 10+ years (without knowing what his fate would be), could be kicked out without any second thoughts. There should be something done to eliminate huge backlogs to support educated and legal people.

Question to President Obama and Gov. Romney; I have raised two boys. I have taught both of them to respect others, respect property, you do not break into others home, you do not steal, basically to obey and follow all laws of the United States . I have conveyed that even if you do not like the laws, its the law and you must obey it/them. Do something to try and change it/them . However in the mean time you must obey them , like it or not. Illegal immigrants have entered the USA and have done so illegally. They have demanded to stay even though it is against the law. They actually have entered our home land and insisted we accept it. My children now ask why are they allowed to go against the law (actually a felony). Why are they allowed to commit this felony and not be charged just as we would if we committed the same crime. What is your plans if any to charge the "illegal" persons that have actually broken into our house and demand to stay in the USA? No matter the reason they have broken the law. The law is the law. Thank you!

On July 26th of this year my same-sex partner of 10 years and I finalized the adoption of three siblings who were separated out of the Washington DC foster care system. The same day we were married. My question is simple. Do you consider us a family? If so what will you do as president to ensure we are protected and have equal rights as all committed families? The Government Accountability Office cites 1,138 rights, benefits, and protections offered to families with heterosexual parents that we do not receive.

I am a 25 year old stay at home mom as well as a part time college student. I worry that when I do graduate within the next couple of years my opportunities will be very limited. Im afraid I will be just another statistic, unemployed and in debt. Out of college we are educated and inexperienced so how do we get a head start in this economy?! What will change?

These questions are from the 6th-8th grade students from St.Vincent de Paul Parish School in Wheeling, WV. They have been learning about and following all aspects about the election. They are doing a great job and forming their own opinions on issues. Here is a list of questions that they developed that they want to see answered in this Tuesday's debate. What can we do to prevent terrorism? What do you plan on doing to keep jobs in America and not ship them overseas? How will Iran be handled? How can we prevent them from obtaining nuclear weapons? Is it possible to avoid war in the Middle East? How can we learn from what happened in Libya? What are your plans with our troops in Afghanistan? What exactly do we want from the Middle East? Do you view China as a threat?

How do you feel about labeling foods as GMO and GMO free? Do you feel this labeling would have a long time effect on the cost of future health care in our country?

I am on medicare and i fell and broke my ankle, unfortunately. I am slowly healing. However, my surgeon prescribed physical therapy to speed the healing process. Under medicare, there is now a cap on physical therapy so I must pay 100% of the charges to get therapy. How would your healthcare reforms help me, if at all. Frank, from Virginia

One of the major deficit contributors is the support of people in social programs such as food stamps, medicaid. With the current minimum wage there is no way that people can live without this social services. How about cutting taxes and raising minimum wage to a point where individuals do not have to depend on the goverment for basic necessities. Why Wallmart, UPS do not allow their workers full time hours, and keep thier pay low so that they can qualify for medicaid and foodstamps. Lets raise minimum wage and allow people to be independent and able to provide for their families. We need to put an end to greed and wage unfairness

Both candidates have expressed their opinion on whether the Bush tax cuts should be extended. Do they both support extending the" Mortgage Forgivness Debt Relief Act" past the end of the year? I believe that if it is not extended, it would be devasting to underwater homeowners and would really slow down the housing recovery. Thank you

There's been a lot of talk about voter turnout and voter suppression around election time. Yet the one thing spoken is that a large swath of the country is unable to vote because they were or are in prison. As the country with the largest prison population in the world, do you think this is a problem, and if so, what would you do to fix it?

Women's health is not just about whether a woman is pro-life or pro-choice. Women's health issues are different but equally important to a man's. Women need different tests but many plans treat females as a pre-exisiting condition. What are your thoughts on a woman's ability to get health coverage that includes reproductive health such as education to prevent unwanted pregnancies, screenings for diseases and cancers that differ from men's, HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancers, mammograms and birth control? Do you believe health care coverage for women is different than for a man and should be approached differently? How would women's health and family planning be covered in your plan? Why should viagra be covered under health plans if birth control is not? Why should prostate screenings be covered but mammograms not? If Planned Parenthood is defunded, will your health plan cover women's health effectively considering our different health and wellness needs (that yes, includes sex and reproduction or pregnancy prevention).

To Governor Romney Do you believe in natural economic cycles? Give an example in your business career when you needed to make a difficult fiscal decision that affected livelihoods of your employees. What decisions were made and were the changes successful. How long did it take to know the decision was or wasn't

One of you wants to use our tax dollars to subsidize the banks and autos while the other wants to use our tax dollars to subsidize the oil and coal industry. Given those two economic policies, can either of you tell me what the difference is? Does it matter if we subsidize company A, or company B? Isn't corporate welfare, corporate welfare? Thank you, Ian McDougal Colorado

The HARP I Act helped millions of homeowners keep their homes by allowing them to refinance or modify underwater mortgages. However HARP I only applies to mortgages guaranteed by Freddie Mac or Gennie Mae. Do you support expanding the HARP Act to all mortgages to give the rest of the homeowners the same opportunity to save their homes?

For President Obama: My husband and I have had an increase in our insurance premiums of around $2800 dollars in the past two years. We feel this is a reaction by the insurance company in anticipation of "Obamacare" coming about in 2014 as a way to make sure they keep their profits up. What do you say to people like us who work hard, pay our premiums and yet seem to be getting stuck with paying for those that may benefit more than us from "Obamacare."
