School Board Looking to Fill Vacancy

Bethlehem Area School Board will be one member short when it convenes for reorganization.

The Bethlehem Area School Board is looking for applicants for school director to represent Region 2, which includes sections of North and West Bethlehem, along with Hanover Township.

School Board President Michele Cann . However, she also won an at-large seat representing voters in the entire district. That will leave the board with one vacancy when it convenes for its reorganization meeting on Monday night.

The district was divided into representative regions in 2008 as part of a settlement of a federal voting rights lawsuit. By state law, the board must flll that seat within 30 days of the vacancy.

Cann’s Region 2 victory was over another incumbent, Benjamin Tenaglia. Cann was also the top vote getter in a five-way race for three at-large seats.

The Bethlehem, Northampton County wards included in school district Region 2 are 7, 8, 9-1,9-2, 9-3, 14-1 and 15-1. The wards in Lehigh County are 11, 12-1, 12-2, 13-2, 13-3, 13-4, 13-5, 13-6, 13-7 and13-8. Region 2 also includes all of Hanover Township, Northampton County.

Region 2 residents who are interested in joining the school board are asked to send a letter and resume to Stacy M. Gober, the board’s secretary. The address is , Bethlehem, PA 18017-6099.

Whoever is chosen will serve on the board until December 2013.

Complete applications must be submitted by noon, December 8 to be considered.
