Public Meeting on New Zoning Law Tonight

If adopted, this will be Bethlehem's first comprehensive zoning law change since 1970.

The Bethlehem Planning Commission will host a special meeting at 7 p.m. tonight to review a proposed new zoning ordinance for the city.

The meeting will take place at the , 402 Third Ave.

A news release from Mayor John Callahan’s office said the meeting will be similar to meetings that took place last summer. Comments made during last summer’s meetings have already been taken into account in the updated proposal, the release said.

“The zoning ordinance’s major goals and objectives are in line with and will help carry out the goals and objectives of the City’s recently-adopted Comprehensive Plan,” the release says. “Topics of discussion include design guidelines, future land uses, infill development, nonconforming uses, workforce housing initiatives and mixed uses and downtown revitalization.”

A draft of the new zoning map will be available for review.

The ordinance that the city’s Planning Commission and Zoning Hearing Board currently works under was adopted in 1970, though it has been amended many times since then.
