NRA Pledges 'Meaningful Contributions' in Wake of Newtown School Shooting

The National Rifle Association will hold a "major" news conference Friday as it promises to offer "meaningful contributions" to make sure a tragedy like the Sandy Hook school mass shooting doesn't happen again

The National Rifle Association issued this statement Tuesday in response to the mass shooting in Newtown, Conn.:

"The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.

"Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

"The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

"The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

"Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time."

Also on Tuesday, Dick's Sporting Goods announced it will suspend sales of some modern sport rifles in its inventory.

Pa. Gov. Tom Corbett on Tuesday warned against a rush to pass new gun laws, according to this Morning Call report.

I'm an instructor in pistol and other gun things, I await the comments on how and what will be done "to help make sure this never happens again" . In my opinion it will happne again. This did not happen because an inanimate object jumped off the shelf into the arms of a man who had mental problems so he could kill 20 children. Inanimate objects remain in place until some one or some thing moves them. Let's look for a moment at what went on at this event. Mom will be found to have gotten into a fight, probably not the first, with her son who suffers from some type of mental disorder. He killed her, the woman who not only took him to the range but did not lock up the guns. But there is more here and it is about us as a country. Our Founders truly believed that we needed to be a moral and religious people. We are no longer those people Church attendance is down. Morals are in the toilet. We are not in the race for our salvation we are in a race to have the largest amount in the bank when we die. We no longer are able to recognize a problem or if we do we let it alone because the shooter is one of our kids and we believe that child is like any child. Adults no longer face the truth because they are too busy working or partying and thus a tragedy occurs and we say, what happened here. What is sad is that we now have people and groups who claim they can fix this so it never happens again. I ask you to walk around your school and tell me if you believe safety is there.

New Radio show for Easton...What can Easton Do for Gun Control Laws? Call in to speak with the host (718) 508-9465 Pennsylvania has been know for easy access to guns. Many New Yorkers come to Pennsylvania and live here just so they can use guns. How should this state react to the recent event in Connecticut and should gun laws be changed?

Just enforce the current gun laws. Guns don't kill people. People kill people

On the one hand guns make it easy for someone to kill on impulse. On the other hand, terristic type mass murder/suicide is easy to commit without the use of guns. For example, cars, trucks, poisons, explosives, knives, crossbows and arson are just some of the ways to achieve the same purpose. It is, most unfortunately, unlikely that removing guns from citizens will end mass murder/suicide incidents. The more effective approach would be examining how Americans relate to each other and the effect that the media has on troubled individuals.
