Man Accused of Biting Off Ex-Girlfriend's Earlobe Waives Hearings

David Bermudez, who faces charges for allegedly bitting off his ex-girlfriend's earlobe and assaulting her son, will head to trial after waiving preliminary hearings.

David Bermudez, 34, who police say bit off part of his ex-girlfriend's ear and assaulted her son, waived his preliminary hearings on two sets of charges Wednesday.

According to Bethlehem Police, Bermudez attacked his ex-girlfriend about 1 a.m. on July 25 as she was walking along the 400 block of Atlantic Street in the city. He allegedly knocked her to the ground, bit off her earlobe and robbed her. She was treated for injuries at St. Luke's University Hospital.

Bermudez, who at one time lived on Merriman Court, Bethlehem, was arrested in September on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, robbery, recklessly endangering another person, theft and receiving stolen property and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

A month before the alleged July 25 assault, according to court records, Bermudez sent the ex-girlfriend’s 14-year-old son to the hospital with a punch to the face that left him unconscious, bruised and with a bloody nose.

The alleged assault on the boy took place June 27 at the family home.

The boy told Bethlehem police that he had been arguing with his mother shortly before 11 p.m. when Bermudez stepped between them and punched him in the face. His mother confirmed that story to police.

The boy required treatment at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill. Bermudez was charged with assault in that case. On Wednesday, he waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Patricia Romig-Passaro.

He also waived an earlier hearing Wednesday before District Judge Nancy Matos Gonzalez on the charges of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
