Federal Election Commission Fines Mayor Callahan

Agency rules that mayoral campaign funds were used improperly on run for Congress.

Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan has been fined by the Federal Election Commission for using funds from his mayoral campaign committee to pay for research done for his 2010 run for U.S. Congress, according to this report in The Morning Call.

Callahan, a Democrat who challenged incumbent U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent in the 15th District of Pennsylvania a year ago, must pay a civil fine of $1,200. He was also ordered to repay his mayoral campaign fund $9,932, which is what was paid to a consultant to do work for the congressional campaign.
