Arbitrator Upholds Firing of Police Officer

John Nye was fired by City Council in December 2010 for lying and disobeying orders during internal investigation.

 

The 2010 firing of a Bethlehem police officer was upheld by an arbitrator who issued a ruling on Tuesday, according to this report in The Morning Call.

Former officer John Nye was fired by City Council in December 2010 on the recommendation of then Police Commissioner Stuart Bedics.

Nye was accused of lying to superiors and disobeying direct orders during an internal investigation of allegations of police brutality against him. Though Nye was exonerated of the brutality charge, council found he was guilty of lying and disobeying commands.

Nye’s attorneys had tried to argue that termination was too severe a penalty for what the officer had done.
