Woman Stole Candy, Stockings, Police Say

Hellertown woman with four previous arrests allegedly stole the items from a Bethlehem CVS.

A Hellertown woman was charged with shoplifting in Bethlehem Tuesday after a security camera allegedly caught her putting candy and a pair of stockings in her purse.

Julie Rhea, 63, of 35 E. Saucon St.Β  was charged with felony retail theft following her arrest at the CVS at 305 W. Fourth Street in Bethlehem Tuesday afternoon.

City police say store employees saw Rhea stick a bag of Hershey's miniatures and a pair of stockings into her purse. Court records say Rhea claimed she had brought the items into the store with her.

Rhea -- who police note has four previous arrests for retail theft -- was arraigned before on-duty District Judge Gay Elwell in Easton; she was free on $2,500 bail.
