Thugs in Yankees Caps Trend Continues in Bethlehem

A trend of thugs wearing N.Y. Yankee caps is continuing with this week's armed robbery in Bethlehem

It's been two years since a New York Times writer highlighted the trend of thugs wearing New York Yankee caps as they rob and steal.

The trend is alive and well based on this week's brazen daylight Surveillance photos show both suspects sporting Yankees head gear.

Of course, the Yankees are one of the most popular franchises in sports history.

Acoording to the NYT report: "Sports marketing analysts say it is a matter of numbers: the Yankees sell more merchandise than any other baseball team."

Why do you think thugs wear Yankees caps? Tell us in the comments below.

There is a very simple explanation for the increase in robberies and crime and it is associated with the casino and its campaign to draw people from New York. They are succeeding and all of Bethlehem is the worse for it. History shows that casinos bring crime and the norm is that it takes 2-3 years for that crime to show up in the community. How long has the casino been open?

Interesting point on the presence of the casino. I feel that it's a combination of factors that involve the economic situation, perhaps the casino and the fact that Bethlehem is "easy pickings" in the criminal mind--otherwise there would have been no attempt to do this in broad daylight.

The casino, the economy , out-of-towners preying on our pretty town...valid points. But over analyzing all of these factors is getting old. We are not going backwards. As for thugs in caps...highly unlikely that a seasoned pro would advertise where they come from. Just a thought...

The casino doesn't exactly attract high end cultural people to the community and most people that leave the casino do so with a lot less money in their pocket than when they entered. People without money do desparate things whether they are seasoned or not and Bethlehem citizens are not prepared to deal with big city style roberies and crime despite a very good police department.
