According to court papers, police were called to Stein's home at 510 E. Fifth St., where they found him suffering from numerous injuries as the result of the attack. Stein would later be diagnosed with a broken nose and a concussion, and would need five stitches on his face.

When police caught up to Paul, he admitted to taking part in the attack on Stein because he "believed that Daniel Stein was 'disrespecting' and mistreating" a woman he was in a relationship with.
