Alleged Shooter Caught in Florida

22-year-old accused of attempted homicide in Jan. 31 Bethlehem shooting will be extradited from Florida back to Northampton County

Kenneth Ortega—also known as "KO"—was arrested in Polk County, Fla. and will be extradited back to Northampton County where he faces charges from a Jan. 31 shooting in the Marvine-Pembroke section of Bethlehem.

Ortega, 22, is charged with:

  • 2 counts- Attempted Homicide
  • 4 counts- Aggravated Assault
  • 1 count- Persons Not to Possess Firearms
  • 1 count- Possessing Instruments of Crime

Ortega went to Florida by bus with a woman and child, according to a published report.

Bethlehem Police say:

"We expect to charge other individuals in connection with this offense and another person with harboring Ortega.  More details will be released as they are available."

A man was shot at about 3 p.m. Jan. 31 in the Marvine-Pembroke section of the city; his wounds were not life threatening, police said.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of Fritz Drive for a report of gunshots being fired there, police said. There were also reports that people were running away from the area.
