Second Sinkhole Opens Behind Homes

3 families in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, remain evacuated while cause of voids is investigated.

A second sinkhole has appeared in the back yard of a cluster of Hanover Township, Lehigh County, which had to be evacuated Monday during an initial sinkhole and a water main break, according to this report on WFMZ-TV’s website.

The first sinkhole as a water main break cut off water service to the neighborhood around Irma Drive, just north of Bethlehem between Airport Road and Schoenersville Road.

City Water Resources crews repaired the water leak and township crews filled in the sinkhole earlier in the week and it was looking as if the residents might be able to return home soon. Township officials are now investigating the depth and cause of the voids.

Meanwhile, a boil water advisory for the neighborhood was lifted today, according to the city of Bethlehem website.
