Part of Route 378 is closed in Bethlehem and Lower Saucon Township, reportedly because of a fire.

At around 5:30 p.m., reports indicated that the heavily-traveled roadway was closed between Mountain Drive in Lower Saucon and Five Points in Bethlehem.

Rush hour motorists have been seeking alternate routes around the road closure, which is causing secondary arteries such as Broadway and Delaware Avenue in Fountain Hill to become congested.

Patch readers posted their tales of traffic woe on Facebook, with one reader calling the roads near the scene of the fire "a total mess."

"It's a complete nightmare," said Pam Kelly Ortwein of the traffic. "[It] took me two hours to get from Bethlehem to Emmaus."

Another reader, Lori McKeown, said it had taken her son about two hours to drive from Bethlehem to Quakertown—a drive that normally takes about 30 minutes.
